Here is a real heartbreaker as you will discover. This is a 21 inch, 1 pound 14 oz. Gelbu Special made and marked by Kumar. It was a special order for a customer who wanted a smiling sun on the right side of the blade just above the bolster and it is there. The fit is perfect and the finish is magic stone mirror. Hardness is about 60 Rc. Silver mounted. Beautifully carved handle. Karda is fullered and very well done as is the chakma.
Scabbard and frog are neatly done and scabbard chape is silver.

So, what's wrong with this rig? The buttcap got dinged in shipment and took off maybe 1/8 to 3/16 of the tip of the handle.

And, what's the deal? This is about a $200 rig give or take a little. Take it for $125 delivered to your door. You can repair the handle yourself with some epoxy and wood dust of a similar color. Or, you can send the knife to Terry Sisco for professional repair and you will be hard pressed to see the repair when the knife is returned. This is an HI guarantee and Terry will do the repair for considerably less than the $75 discount.

So, call or email if interested.

I am saving up for the Full Curving Model. Now that a labor of love is finished and the dance outfit is out of the way I may have time to get started on a prototype.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle,

If it's still up for grabs I will take it! Could I have you send it directly to Terry if I can get him to fix it?

Regards,

Tom Carey

Tom,
How does $25 + $5.00 sh. sound for the repair? I even have some of the nepalese wood to match the handle.

When I saw your 'Heartbreak Blem' Bill, it reminded me of the condition my 15" AK arrived in, here in the UK. You told me to keep in touch concerning what you were going to do about my problem and the problem that any others receiving damaged goods over here may have experienced, due to the fact although we have not paid for blems, we find it impossible to return damaged Khukuris sent to the UK, because of crippling charges and all the red tape at this end. Have you come up with any thoughts on this yet?
Kind Regards,
Nick.

As a matter of fact, I have.

Tom Holt who is your neighbor is a very passable kami and I think he could repair your knife easily if he is up to it. Tom and I can work out the labor charge between ourselves.

So, if you'd like me to contact Tom I will but he will probably see this before we can make personal contact and give us a decision

Khukuri FAQ

Thanks for the offer Bill, but after a lot of thought, I'll leave the damaged AK as it is. As you know, it was a gift from my late wife Claire who died a month ago, and the thought of it going away to be repaired, no matter how good the repair, will never turn it into the '1st Class' HI khukuri she wanted to give me from the kids for Father's Day. So damage or no damage, it will stay with me as it is.
My only regret, is that for a very long time I wanted a 'pristine' HI AK, but that unfortunately was not possible because of the postal damage en route to the UK. My only 'khukuri regret', is that because of my financial commitments to my two young children, my HI Khukuri collecting will start and finish here. Perhaps one day I'll be in a better position to buy another and it'll come undamaged. Can I suggest plastic 'bubble-wrap' would be better in future, as I'm convinced my AK would have arrived undamaged if that had been used instead of just newspaper?
I'll stay on the Forum though, and take great interest in all the 'goodies' you guys in the States are able to buy.
Kind Regards,
Nick.

Sorry, I don't know how the above came out twice - put it down to the 'internet gremlins'.
Kind Regards,
Nick.

See the knife in the picture above, Nick? This knife was excellently packed and padded and the box it was shipped in was stuffed with wads of newspaper and the USPS still was able to damage that handle as shown.

But stay with us whether you buy anything or not. We appreciate your companionship and forum contributions for the UK.

Feel free to email me on a personal basis anytime for any reason.
