I got out for a hike today, There was still a little snow left here and there, here are a few pics I took.

There is snow on the mushroom, but it really doesn't show up in this picture too well.

I was "buzzed" by a low flying plane.

I checked out some bluffs. this is an area I like to stop and sit in during the warm months, but this time of year you have to beware falling icicles and falling pieces of rock being separated by the ice....some times some of them are rather large.

I found a few nice hunks of fatwood. This is the largest one.

Then I made my way down to the falls.

I met a couple out hiking too and spent a little time talking to them...even gave them a few lessons in fire startng.

IMG_8808.jpg

I found a nice rock at the base of the falls to sit on and have lunch...traveling lite today so no cooking. You can't see it in this picture but the screen on the phone says "searching svc"...one of my favorite things about this place :)

IMG_8812.jpg

I raided my father-in-law's bundle of bailing twine and played with some of it.

Then there was a nice sunset on the way back up.

The sunset shot makes me feel the last warmth of the sun and gaining cold of night...
To be added I noticed your firesteel is losing its body gradually. :D

Great photos Bro

Looks like a fun time

Thanks man, yeah it was nice and peaceful.

Yep, that's exactly what it felt like too!

Yes...I have about worn this one away...it's about time for a replacement :D

Nice pictures, mistwalker.

They could have been taken around here - looks exactly like areas along the Niagara Escarpment. (except no snow :( yet)

Doc

I've always wanted to hike through that area. I've only seen it in movies.

That's exactly what I was thinking, Doc. These photos remind me of sections of the Bruce Trail, particularly around the Kolapore Uplands. I love to hike through this kind of terrain.

The waterfall looks like a great hiking destination.

Thanks for sharing mistwalker, and all the best,

- Mike

Thanks Mike,
I Like to hike to the falls and meditate whenever I get the chance

great pics brother!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks bro, glad you liked them!!

Awesome pics, those rocky cliffs and overhangs are very cool!

Thanks, Yeah I've been messing around up there since I was a kid, I've never gotten tired of it.

Great pictures. I like it when you just have that dusting on the ground. Could use a bit more dusting than that, but I always find it a special time of year. One of brisk cool air and anticipation of the deep snows to come.

Hi mistwalker, I like the pics:D. That is very cool that you were able to show that couple about some fire starting. You planted a seed and that just might save there lives sometime in the future.

Take care

Bryan

great pics bro, looks like my country loved the waterfall/pourover.....

Thanks man, I love to just sit by that waterfall and think. It drowns out all but the most important thoughts :)

Thanks Ken, glad you enjoyed them. As you could see in the "first snow...." thread there was more the day before but if I had hiked to Rainbow Lake I'd have never made it to work :D

Thanks Bryan, glad you like the pics. Yeah it was fun, ironically she was more interested in the subject than he was. She was really surprised by the method I used and the tinders I started.

That is not a hunk of fatwood - that is a LOG of fatwood! ;)

TF

Well yeah..I guess it is. The others were more like hunks though...

Those falls almost look wider than they are tall.Nice pics!

Thanks man, yeah the falls are wider. They are only about twenty feet tall most of the time. What is left of Rainbow Lake is behind the falls. There was a slide some years ago that filled a lot of it in but it is still fed by five creeks. Now days people swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls.

Great pics once again buddy, looks like my kinda place to hike !

Thanks Pit, it's beautiful there, and I think you would like it there. It is a section of the Cumberland trail and there are several miles of trail over to the Indian rock House on the next mountain over and lots of bluff views along the way. Maybe I'll try to arrange getting dropped off at one and picked up at the other one weekend, I think it's about twenty-five miles....been a while since I hiked it all the way over, usually park at one end and hike about a third of the way and return. If I remember right there is a large fall about halfway that I'd love to see again.
