A few days ago leghog showed us a knife he recently acquired, but things didn't work out a planned and he wound up with a broken tip...http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...manity!-Snapped-blade?p=14977703#post14977703

He quickly decided to do a rapid fire GAW to anyone willing to fix this neat old Wenger knife...http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...if-you-want-to-mod-it?p=14980205#post14980205 so I jumped on it :)

Thank You very much for the opportunity to give this sweet old SAK some more time to be useful leghog.:thumbup:

50s/60s era Wenger from their 100mm Sportsman series. Three layer with main blade, secondary pen, "pre-beak" can opener, combo cap lifter/wire stripper/flat head screw driver, and saw plus flush punch and corkscrew back tools.

So here's where it began for me.

First thing was to plan out the grind:

I thought it would make a pretty decent and useful sheepsfoot so had at it.

The tools: My trusty glass grinder for stained glass work, The sponge delivers water to the diamond bit to wash away grindings and keep things cool:

Took about 5 minutes to grind it to shape and cut the swedges.

Then on to the Paper:

I decided to re-surface the steel so it can tell new stories going forth. This was fun and very enjoyable for me, and I really do appreciate the knife leghog! Thanks Again!:thumbup:

Nice job, Duane, I'm glad to see that you took those big scratches down on the blade, too.

Really nice. I am sending you all my busted knives. [emoji12]

Thanks :) LOL, too funny:D

niceee, great repurposing of that blade. :D

Thanks :)

Thanks Jeff :) It does look a lot better now.

That old Wenger deserved a second chance, glad you could salvage it sitflyer.

I agree, it's a sweet old knife for sure  Thanks :)

These old Wengers from the Sportsman series qualify as grails to me. At least I can say I once owned an old Wenger Sportsman for a couple of days.

Great job on that knife. Enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words guys! :)
Paul, it really is a great old knife.

I can see why they could be a grail knife leghog. I have really enjoyed working on it , and then looking at and admiring all of the subtle differences in the tools from todays products. I suppose this one probably has a story or two to tell :)
Thanks for the compliment, and for your generosity!

Great modification! Very cool!

Wow, planning a re-profile. I'll have to try that.

Fantastic job. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
