Just got this little jewel yesterday.
It's model 6318PI CV in Amber Bone.
I've been averse to buying Case in the past because of their dubious reputation with regard to quality.
However, I've been reading the forums lately and it seems like they've turned their act around.
I decided to take a chance.
Man am I glad I did.
This knife is beautiful.
Everything fits perfectly, no visible gaps, beautiful color on the jigged bone scales, excellent walk and talk,
and the perfect size for the change pocket of my jeans. An added bonus, the blades were sharp.
I couldn't be happier.
I touched up the blades slightly on the Sharpmaker, and now they're shaving sharp.
Also, the Sheepsfoot blade sat a little high when closed.
I judiciously took the Dremel to the blade's kick and now it's perfect.
I can't wait till the blades start gaining a patina now.
I debated beween this model and the 6318 CV which is a true Stockman with a Spey blade.
In the end, I realized that I don't really use the Spey blade of my other Stockmen that much.
And the Punch will be much more useful adding versatility to the knife.
Oh well, just wanted to share.
I really wish that Case would offer all of their patterns and handle materials with CV scales.
I think they'd find that they'd find a whole new customer base with people who really use their knives.

Lenny, that's a little beauty of a knife! I too think more stockmen should have an awl in place of the spey.

Carl.

I agree I had pre ordered it and have had it since the beginning of March, it has kicked all others out of my pocket except my peanut which is also top notch. Mine was almost perfect, blades came with the wire edge, easy fix, and the punch got caught up on the sheepsfoot but it somehow worked itself out in about two days? With no damage or scratches. It is extremely comfortable in the pocket, and useful. Hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

All I can say is amen! I get tired of the Case bashers. Are today's Case knives as good as what was out there in the '60s and earlier? Maybe not. But for <$50 you can buy a hell of a good slipjoint knife made in America. And all my Case purchases have been online, sight unseen (other than web pics, of course). Anyway, congrats on finding a great new knife.

I agree. I thought they sent all the good one's to me based on what i read from others. I think a lot of it is just folks repeating what they hear.

I would be one of them, and have given all of mine away because if a $10 rough rider can be free from side x side play than an American maker with lengthy history can too...all my new bought Case knives have had side x side play, that to me is a deal breaker. I want to like case, I see some amazing looking case knives on here but I also can't buy in person so wouldnt buy blind again (no second hand opinion here).

Congrats Lenny on finding one that has pleased you though, I had a peanut with the same scale material which is very good looking I think.

I have to agree, I had and still have a Case penknife from when I was a kid so its about 32-34 years old, when I was milling around the forums looking for slipjoint recommendations it seemed people were bashing Cases quality or quality control. I received my peanut as a gift this past Christmas and I was very impressed with the little knife. Scales nice, great snap, both blades centered, everything about it perfect. So when I noticed the 6318pu was out for release in March I preordered and waited, really only other then the wire edge the knife is perfect, but these things happen when there is a human element to a product plus it's a easy fix. I use my knives in day to day activities, work and play, I have always had a job where a knife is in my hand a good portion of the day either in the kitchen or in the construction trades.Their CV steel is excellent I like to carve and have used the peanut to carve peach pits and they are hard as stone, when done the blades are still shaving sharp, the only thing I've done to maintain the edge on both knives is a few passes on 600grit stone and the back of my belt. I was a Chef for many years and I am anal about blades being sharp. I have accumulated many knives through the years and I have to say that my Case peanut and my Case 6318pu med stockman are my goto knives they seem to always be in my pockets by choice, both purchased sight unseen online, maybe I got lucky just my .02 more like .25 have a good weekend guys and gals.

I have this knife as well. Mine needed some washing to get out the grit. Also, there is a minor gap and the awl occasionally will get hung up on the sheepsfoot. If I thought the knife was not worth the money, I would have returned it. Case makes a good knife.

The only reason I don't carry this knife more is that my '47 stockmen have really taken over. I love that pattern to death. Of the two vintage I have, one was given to me by my wife on our 10th anniversary. It gets lots of pocket time.

Incidentally, not to hijack. 3 of my '47s are new production. One is a special run of the 3347 in CV done by a popular online case dealer which I believe is affiliated with this site, but I am not sure. That knife was great out of the box. Given the price, I bought another one to put away.

Another example of great Case knives, new and old.

I just orderd one, I have been looking for a stockman pattern without the speyblade which in my edc is redundant. Since I work in an office a punch is more usefull for prying out staples and such, the wharncliff blade for opening packages, cutting tape and the california clip for food prep.
Really looking forward to test this one out. Perhaps it can push my Amber Bone Texas Jack CV out of the pocket for a while.

I've always thought that awls were killer:cool:. I know that a lot of folks really have been dissapointed in recent years by Case, however I've been lucky I suppose because nearly every recent Case purchase I've made (yellow delrin peanut, yellow delrin muskrat, CV amber bone Canoe) has proven to be of decent F&F. The only quarrel I had was with the Muskrat seeing as the tip of one of the blades was a bit dull, but with a bit of sharpening it worked itself out. @ Robert B. Rough Riders IMO offer 75 % of the quality of a Case at about a 3rd of the price, with that being said I still believe the Case to be a better knife, however I feel that the Rough Riders are a stellar value regardless and own/use several(acouple of them in particular are pretty darn close to the level of Case/Buck in regard to F&F) all in all I love Rough Rider and Case, but IMO they're different.
