A Khukuri with a disc shaped hand guard?

I was thinking of putting a hand guard, much like a katana's Tsuka, on a Khukuri. Do you think it is a good idea? I mean I cannot do it myself I have to have it made by the kamis. I know this is a sin but would it be practical at all?

Would the disc go on the pomel, like Indian swords, or where the Habaki-style collar goes, near the cho?

A while back I re-handled one of my khuks - nothing wrong with the old handle, I hasten to add, just too big for my little girly hands - and I made a 'tsuba' for it... I'd had to take off the bolster in order to remove the old woodwork.

The job was no big deal; hacksaw a slice off a 3" round bar, face it off in the lathe, drill & file the slot, plus some decorative knurling (a mistake, in retrospect)

Didn't like it; it messed up the balance. Wouldn't recommend it for a working knife - not into martial arts, so can't comment on how it would affect handling for combat.

Absolutely not!!!!

I doubt that it's anywhere near sinful, but not practical at all.
I had the chance to do this on my little as forged hammer dinghy finished Chainpuri blade I finished out and never gave the idea a passing thought.
Tom has said it all along with Uncle Bill.

I can understand the old Gorkhas who were doing a great deal of hand to hand combat with khukuris wanting a guard (heavy leather gloves part of battle dress) but unless that's what you're going to be doing I'd leave it alone.
