I went to Smokey Mountain Knife Works today. Had a couple of "Firsts". I purchased my first Mora (a Craftline), and my second a Carbon "Clipper" 840. I also ran into the first member of the Forums that I have ever met in person. Pretty sure he said his forum name was "Cbach" which the closest the search shows is ( cbach8tw). I won't post his real name. Imagine being on vacation and going to Smokey Mountain Knife Works? Really nice talking to another knife person.

On another note, I love being able to handle knife before buying. I bought a couple of Mora's because they felt good. Of course it also made me realize that several knives that I thought I was interested in didn't suit me at all mainly because they were so freaking thick and heavy, a 5" blade does not need to be .25" thick, at least not for me. So the visit actually convinced me to not buy a couple of knives... Oh well.

Hi Nuke_Spook -

It is really cool that you met another BF member there!

I have ordered from them many times in the past, and I really would enjoy stopping inside the place to see all the displays.

Did you happen to take any pictures in there?

best regards -

i recently went to smkw, bought myself i spyderco delica, love it!i could spend days in there its awesome:cool:

Yep, that was me you met at smkw, we got to talking next to the Mora sticking into the foam, plus over by the condor line behind the counter. I also thought it cool to meet a antoher forum member there and enjoy the time spent there. We were on vacation and it was great to spend about two hours there......still needed more time..but we had to get going.:thumbdn:

I used to visit there when it was just a hole in the wall shop inside an antique store. It sure has grown, but so have their price tags. I bought a new Alox Solider and a Leatherman PS4 a few weeks agoafter looking through the store for a couple of hours. Their Spydercos and Benchmades are just too over priced, and they have alot of "junk" knives now. Nothing wrong with inexpensive, but some of these would probably not last the trip home. I was looking at a Buck Vantage Pro, and when I checked the blade play, it had a ton. The person at the counter told me that it was supposed to be made that way! I pulled my Sebenza from my pocket and showed them that it had none. The person then asked what brand of knife it was and I told them it was a Chris Reeve. Their reply....."Who?" Gotta love that.
