After making my first few slip joints, I showed one to my friend and mentor David Lang. He was so impressed he asked me to make him one. You can imagine my surprise and how honored I felt. I gladly agreed.

Dave moved into my neighborhood the same time my parents did back when I wasn't even 1 year old yet. I have known him my whole life and have memories of going to his shop as a kid and watching him grind on steel. Last August when I decided I wanted to try my hand at making knives I worked up the courage to ask him if he could teach me the ropes. He has taught and continues to teach me most of what I know in knifemaking. I have barely scratched the surface of his wealth of knowledge. He never did get into making slip joints very much so he asked me to make this one. It is black linen over white G-10 and natural canvas. I kept the handle thin on this one and gave it a high polish which I normally don't do on micarta shadow patterns. It's .103" thick CPM 154 CM and measures 3 3/4" closed.

Thanks for looking!

wow that is really a VERY nice knife. A novel pattern, very nice use of the different micarta (you got all the best colors in one knife :p), and that blade grind is just full of win. Great job on this one!

I love that you are putting colored liners under the handles on your slipjoints. It's a subtle yet classy touch.

Thank you for the kind words everyone.

Thanks Corey, I do layers similar to that on my fixed blades and I figured, why not try it with my slip joints. I have a lot of color combo ideas for future knives.

Thats great to hear. I think aesthetic boundaries should continue to be expanded, while still maintaining the "heart" of what traditional knives are. Can't wait to see more!

Holy crap!!!! I was proud of myself for making my first lanyard yesterday. That's incredible!

He will be proud to own that beauty. It looks like it has a milled liner in between the layers, but I see you mention white G-10

That knife is fantastic.
Wonderful job and a perfect gift to someone who has affected you in such a great way.

Gongrats on the great friend and awesome skill.

Beautiful grinds on the blade and I too like the additional layers on the handle

Beautiful lines Jared. Your friend has a fine tribute in my opinion.

Jared, You know I like the knives you've made. Very nice shape to the pattern and very
nice swedge work and grinds look great. Love the layered micarta. Congrats buddy...

Yes, the white G-10 is one of the layers. Black linen on top of a thin white g-10 layer on top of a thin natural canvas layer all on top of a .040" thick 410 ss liner that has been mill relieved.
