A Knife for horsepacking?

In 4 weeks I'll be heading into MT's Bob Marshall wilderness with family on a horse packing-fishing-sight seeing trip. On past trips I've carried my Kershaw "Outlaw Bill" folder in a sheath on my gun-belt and kept a Cold Steel Hunter fixed-blade in my pack. This trip I was planning on taking the Kershaw and my Spyderco "Goddard". Anyone out there who horsepacks (we use Deckers) and has an opinion on what would be a good choice? For those who haven't horse packed - frequently some "horse emergency" or rodeo comes up that requires having a good knife and the ability to get it into action quickly (yes, I know all about quick-to-untie knots).

Stupid question, how do you pack a horse, and what do yo pack it in?:D Sorry I couldn't resist.

There was a post by a rancher about the Spyderco Wayne Goddard Collaboration,(see link below), which I believe IMHO is a good choice for a folder, and a Grohmann D.H. Russell Belt Knife,(see picture)
