A knife for my grandkids.

One of my favorite knives that I own is a knife that my father gave to my grandfather (his father in law). My grandfather used and abused that knife and it's worth nothing monetarily but it's special to me. I tend to prefer to carry modern folders as my main blade for convenience of carry and use but many modern folders are overbuilt tactical knives and I don't care to carry those and they aren't something that I see as "classic" or "timeless." So I've decided to purchase a new Sebenza 21 Clip Point with Micarta inlays to carry daily. I want the knife to have character from daily use and something that my children and grandchildren will want when I eventually pass on.

I realize there are a number of durable well made knives I could have bought for this but none of them have the classic design of the Sebenza. It's a knife I want to pass down.

Thanks for reading!

Here are some pictures:

Awesome idea :) I know there are regulars out there that have been EDC'd for the 20 year range or so, and are still going strong.

A great idea for sure. Both my large PJ Regular (born 2008, S30V) and my small PJ Regular (born 1996, ATS-34) that I recently bought from LW are beautifully smooth and working great. I sometimes think about which of my CRK's will go to which children some day...

Get something YOU absolutely love. They will appreciate something more if you hold it dear.

If I had a boy, I'd EDC my Mammoth Seb with Damascus.

Trust me, this knife is one I've wanted for a while. :)

I love the look of CRK in general but they are similar to a traditional knife in that wear and tear looks good on them. They really are made to work. Many of the modern folders out just don't carry their wear quite like the Sebenza. But again, it's a timeless design - not trendy.

Good choice! I just hope that one of my offspring appreciates all the knives they are going to get when I croak:)

This is exactly what I did! I now have special CRKs purchased with each kid in mind. I'll use them daily and they pass down when I'm gone!

I'm not superstitious or anything, but I feel that the certain objects develop character of their own if they've been carried for a lifetime by someone you've cared for. I think this is especially true for objects that were specifically chosen because of appearance, utilitarian function, or a special time. This simple knife was my grandfathers, and it means the world to me.

I got these for my two boys. They know I'm a big fan of Chris Reeve knives, and these are tied to their birth years

And they'll have to fight for the rest of these. They should find something they like here, and hopefully remember with a smile.

This ^ , my grandfather father and great grandfather are all passed away now. All carried and used knives and I remember as a child seeing their knives. As a child my love for knives started because of them snd they all left me their knives.

They are literally my most prized possessions ,and they may or may not be worth anything . It's just nice to be able to pull the box out woth their old stuff in it and look at the knives. Brings back some of my best memories .

I will say if you have more than one grandkid buy more than one knife and rotate them. That way when you pass on everyone gets one and feelings aren't hurt if there's only one knife to pass down. Trust me I have a sister not into this kind of stuff but she still wants to see our dad's knives .

Knives passed down from fathers to sons or grandfathers to grandchild are very special. The micarta inlay will make a great knife to pass down and give you good service in the mean time.

Got it today. Man, the micarta inlays really fill the hand and it is buttery smooth!

Uploaded some pics. :)

Looks great Cody... Good thing you had today off work so you could spend some time bonding with it :D

I'm back at work today. I normally don't bring a knife this large to the office because their's no need and I really don't like a knife this size in my khakis but here it is.
