Hello, guys

I have been willing to share this with you for a while but ahd not found the time until now.
Here is a scan of a damascus hunter by my friend, talented knifemaker Ariovaldo Lopes.
It has about 300 layers of 4340 and 1095 in it and was made from the first damascus bar he forged on his press. The handle is pau rosa and the fittings are nickel silver. The sheath was also made by him.
Let me know what you think.

Very nice work, and I love the wood.

I have never seen anything like that wood before. Is that something common to you guys south of the equater?

Looks Great! Beautiful work. I love the lings and it looks like it would be very comfortable to use. Also, the wood is spectacular.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
here is a link for a demo we did some six months ago for a local boy scout group. Click on Avançar to see the rest of the pics.

On ths first pic, Ariovaldo is the big guy on the anvil and in the middle is my friend Wagner Graziano, the Chief Scout who invited us for the demo. He is also the best pizzaiolo in town and a great artist in his midia, and good kenjutsu fighter.

I like the knife too. Very impressive, even though the skinner style is not my favorite.

Pau rosa is also known as tulipwood. It's the palest of the
genuine rosewoods. I've got some I'm saving for a personal carving set some day. But I've never seen any cut on the sort of diagonal in that knife. Very nice indeed!

Well said, it is definatly "very nice" and like was also said, that wood is spectaculare!

Both, the knife and the pics of the Scout demo are very good.

Nice knife, very burly and strong looking. I'd have said that looked like tulipwood, I feel vindicated now. :D First time I've seen it in use, and I like it.

That's a nice looking little forge at the demonstration, too.

Hello, guys

That wood was cut at an angle from a large block and really looked amazing when the knife was finished. A freind of mine, knifemaker Silvana Mouzinho, has some spare pau rosa for sale, or maybe trade for other handle materials. You can find her at www.silvanaartknives.com.
For more exotic woods, you can e-mail Jaime Carletti at magicplants@uol.com.br. He is very nice to deal with and lknows a lot about the woods he sells.
