A knife i picked up years ago

i bought this little "mini cleaver"(cant really think of what else to call it) from a knifemaker at a gunshow years back and it has just sat in a drawer wrapped in a handkerchief, so i figured id pull it out and take a few pics for yall. my calipers are at the farm with my reloading stuff so im not sure of the blade thickness, but it is pretty darn thin.

the fella who made it was/is from Iowa (didnt manage to keep his business card so im not sure who it was) and there are no markings to id him. he said it was made from an old sawmill blade, ans is very very sharp. he told me he had made one other one and his wife used it in the kitchen for veggies, but i have never used it to cut anything. i wish id have gotten more info, but his booth was busy, so i paid him (i believe it cost me $40) and moved on. can any of you guys shed some light on what i have?(handle materials, etc..) i know the pics arent best, but ive always been curious what i managed to pick up that day LOL

Is that Scandi ground? Or is there a primary ground I'm not seeing in the pics?

If its scandi ground that low, its not going to slice a veggie like a carrot....its going to wedge though it and break it! :D Kinda like batonning.

Its a fun looking knife...handle is pretty. Check out Japanese nakiri knives...kinda similar and used for veggies.

I think the poster said it was a Mini Cleaver (Cleave)In Old English means to split. A little lite trivia for the folk's. LOL
 
I'm guessing the blade is L6, as misery whip blade saws are made from that, you might want to talk to a maker here by the name of Alan Davis, he works exclusively with Misery Whips.

I tghink that is exactly what it would do to a carrot! :D

All that said, I do like it...it's a cool knife. I'd be proud to own it.
 
its just so odd of a design, i havent ever figured out what it truly would excel at. imo kitchen duties seems to be the best thing this knife would be good for.

I have an old Robeson cleaver that works great in my kitchen, not too different from what you have. Try it out, you may be surprised at how well it actually works.

Levine's Guide to Knives IV, available through Amazon, has a list of custom American makers, and their locations here in the U.S.

That list may help you narrow down who the maker is. I'll leave a visitor message in your profile with a link to LG4 for you.
