I recently had the pleasure of working with fine Texax knife-maker by the name of Phil Tham (goes by txwoodchip on BFC).

It all started by me stumbling onto a thread about a similar piece. Checked out his web site and became further intrigued and extremely interested in the prospects of having him complete a piece for me.

Rifled off an e-mail and within a few hours he contacted me wanting to know how I wanted it. Little over 24 hours later (I had some decisions to make about materials) we struck a deal and the wait/anticipation began.

6 days later. . .the thing was finished (I was shocked. . .considering Phil is a part-time maker and has another job). Phil told me, when it was ready, that the piece in the pic that he sent me earlier. . .didn't do it justice. Of course, that pushed my anxiety levels to even greater heights !

Several days later. . .it was in my hot hands ! Like most. . .my anxiety levels skyrocket from the time a knife ships and it arrives at its new home ! :D

Opened the box. . .and carefully removed the THANG from the protective wrapping. . .BAM. . .there it was.

I was in shock !

Removed it from the sheath. . .jaw hit the floor !

Yep, Phil was right. . .the original pic that he sent me didn't do it justice ! Even after Phil told me that and my expectations increased dramatically. . .as I held the piece. . .all I could think was, "This is like 10X better than what I had imagined !"

Unbelieveable !

The overall fit and finish is superb. The THANG feels very solid and precise. Even though it extremely light-weight, it has a beautiful balance to it. It fits in the hand. . .as if I had sent Phil my hand for a sample fit. :)

Phil did an excellent job of bringing my desire to life.

Here is a pic of the THANG ! (including spec's):

Thanks Phil !

I had a similar experience with Phil. I went to his shop, watched him profile and rough grind the piece, then waited a few days to pick it up. He does fast work, but pays good attention to detail. The knife he made for me came out great and was done much sooner than I expected. I'm saving up my nickels and dimes to have him make another one for me. He really does great work.

Wow! Very tasteful and not-your-ordinary-knife. :)

Dagger grinds, I am told, are the hardest to achieve, and I've never seen better. All this within two weeks??!! YOWEE!

Congrats and thanks for the post, Gig.

WOW! All that wonderful praise is makin me blush. Many thanks for the kind words. A happy customer is the best part of knife makin. To set the record straight though, I'm really not all that fast. I already had the blade done and just had to dress it out. Dagger grinds are difficult for me but they come out decent once in a while :D

That looks superbly clean and crisply executed. Our down-under laws are restrictive with push dags, but that doesn't stop me from appreciating a great job and a beautiful knife !! Congrats to you both. Jason.

OAL of the dagger is 6 1/8", the blade (tip to handle material) is 4 3/4" and the cutting edge (without measuring the curvature) is approx. 3 1/2". :)
