i'm trying to get some opinions from you guys that know benchmades better than i do. i ordered a 943 a few weeks ago and it appeared to be everything i wanted in an edc knife until i got it. it was just too small for my hands and i felt like it wasn't a knife that i could really beat up on...maybe i'm wrong on that but that's how i felt. i traded it a few days later and i have to be honest i miss it. even tho it was too small, it just felt awesome in my hands and felt like the best quality of knife i ever handled. i'm tempted to order a replacement, but i know once its back in my hands i'm still not going to be happy when i once again see how small it is.

i have a 522 presidio ultra that was my first knife and carried for three years, and is now retired, or at least until i get it tuned up. the only other benchmade i own is a full size griptilian which i just don't get that same quality "feel" probably because of the plastic like handles that i'm sure many of you know what i mean.

so my question is what would be a good alternative to the 943...or basically what is your opinion of a blade that is closest to the 943, just larger? i'm thinking maybe the 710...but i've never handled one so I can't tell.

any suggestions?

I have EDC'd a 943 for many years and it is to date my favorite Benchmade to carry. That being said it is not for everyone. If you are looking for a larger knife I would try the 950 Rift. The blade is a similar shape to the 940 with a reverse tanto but larger and the handle is bigger and in my opinion very comfortable in the hand.

710 is awesome if you want to stick with that clip point blade shape. Feels (to me, anyway) like a bit more of a "work" knife than the 943, with the full G10 scales. 943 is almost too classy sometimes.

+2 on the 710, as you can see in the pic above it is quite a bit larger than the 943 so you will have no issue with grip. It is also light for a knife of that size. I think you will really like it. There is a dealer exclusive with M4 steel, but the D2 version is just fine.

awesome, thanks for the replies guys. i've been eyeing up the 710 for months now, and i have also put thought into the 950 and the contego. after reading your opinions i think i'll definitely have to do some research and see if i can find a good deal on one of them although i'm leaning towards the 710.

thanks again!

You want a knife built like a tank from the sounds of it. Upgrade that 522 to a 520 and never look back.

I just ordered one for a hair under a hundred shipped, I think Knives Emporium had one or more for about 105, I don't know about shipping.

May not be the best price on them, but it's by far the best I've seen.

You were absolutely right! I haven't seen one for that cheap ever since I've been searching. I just ordered it. I had to. Even my old lady said go for it at that price. So thank you for the heads up bro! Ill curse you out when my credit card bill comes but I don't think it's possible to regret buying a benchmade.

Everyone else thank you for your suggestions. I'm sure those others you all mentioned will be part of my collection soon enough.

No problem! Before I started asking around, I was limited to MSRP or whatever the best I could get from Amazon was.

Oh, and the place that sold out of 710D2s? They've got a dealer exclusive 710 in M4 steel, I don't remember the price, but with the coupon code it wasn't bad, something like $130-150 maybe.
