A larger Kershaw Zing?

I have had my Kershaw Zing for about a month now and really like it. I would buy a larger version if available but alas there is none. Does anybody know of another knife that has these key features?
-large flipper that becomes a guard
-ball detent for blade retention

Thanks

That's easy. It's called the Groove, and it comes in many variations.

Does the Groove have the ball detent to secure the blade? I have never seen one in person.

It has a very strong detent. It would be difficult to open by any means other than the flipper. My groove is the smoothest traditional flipper I own.

I'm pretty sure every liner/frame lock has a ball detent. At least everyone I have seen has one. A reputable company isn't going to let a knife go to market that is dangerous and a blade that does not stay closed is an accident waiting to happen.

A knife might slip by that doesn't have a strong detent, but it should have something.

Just so you know the Groove's flipper action is a little bit different from the Zing. The Zing is snappier and does not require a wrist flick...

I am going to agree with Phillip on this one. I have owned several Grooves (and given several as gifts) and this is one slick flipper. Every Groove I have handled snapped open with the authority of an AO, with zero wrist flick. The Groove takes almost zero technique to open, you pull back fairly hard on the flipper and the knife is open and locked, no fuss no muss. The Groove is a great knife and a top of the line flipper. If you like the Zing you will love the Groove.

... and neither does the Groove... at least mine doesn't.

Kershaws with SpeedSafe do not have a ball-detent (the MC not included). They use the tension of the torsion bar for retention.

I just looked at my cyclone and it has one. Although now that I look at it the ball seems to be mostly gone. Can't tell if it is worn down, chipped off, or what. I guess all the other Kershaws I have are not AO and I didn't know they lacked that feature. But they still have a device that keeps the blade closed. That sounds like what the OP was worried about mainly.

Edit: I guess MC is the mini-cyclone? Then that would make since that the large one has it also.

I wasn't sure about the regular-sized cyclone. The Cyclones need it because the torsion bar can be dis-engaged.

The lack of a detent is an issue for those who want to remove the Speedsafe feature. The ball is still there (to reduce friction), but there isn't a hole for it to rest in.

Back on topic, my Groove is much smoother opening than any Zing I've handled. I don't know why it's so smooth, but I like it. It's not to say that the Zing is bad, the Groove is just better.

Looking at my Blur and Leek, they both seem to have a detent, but they're just about entirely ineffectual. The one on my Cyclone seems to be the only one that's functional...
