Hi Yog. the thread generated here on the Calypso jr. has convinced me to make at least one run of the FRN version to see viability of the run. They'll be gray FRN with VG-10. We plan to make 1000. They will all be plain edge. We will retain the name Calypso jr name to avoid additional tooling costs in this test. If the response is good, we will consider another run in another color FRN or even a micarta or ?? version.

The "plan" is for November delivery. I'd like to thank all of you for your support in requesting this design. We'll see what happens.

Now, if we all devour that run quick enough, he will make more.

For those who do not know what the Calypso Jr. model is: It was a very ergonomic handle, coupled with a fully flat ground blade, of VG-10 steel. Mix it with an FRN handle, and you have about the best slicing knife available for it's price. It was a popular model with collectors who understood it's abilities, the general public however, not knowing about edge geometry, or steels, didn't understand it, so it was discontinued.

We have been bugging Sal for a long time about this. He has finally agreed and now we have this great knife back. Thank you Spyderco!

I can't wait! I didn't take full advantage of the original run and only bought one, but what a knife! In my opinion, the best in it's size and price range. I'm gonna stock up this time around!

I agree about this knife it's a keeper ! I've got a SE model right now, so i'm gonna get at least ONE new grey one when they come out. Hope they would make some with G10 & D2 also, maybe later... HOPE, HOPE, HOPE, ( Fingers crossed ) :) p.s. and toes

I'll buy one. I've tried for a few Calypso Jrs on e-bay, but they always either get too pricey or someone outbids me at the last minute (no time to sit around watching auctions). Any hope for a Calypso?

I have three calypso JRs, but all of them are serrated, because everytime I actually can get one it is a serrated model. I love the knife, and I need a plain ed Calypso Jr.

It is my favorite spydie design so far, and I have a lot of them.

Sal hasn't said anything about that, but we will see after this run. If all goes well, anything can happen.

This is really great news :D
Can't wait to get a few, one for use, one for spare and a few as presents for people that don't already own a decient knife.

One of my favorite carry knives is my Calypso Jr. with micarta handles and AUS8A blade. I would LOVE to see the same knife, only with a VG10 blade! Cmon Sal, please make it so!

Your wish ...

The differnce will be that the Sprint run will be grey FRN

Full flat grind and VG-10, Yeah Baby :D

I have recently bought a Spyderhawk(VG-10), two Natives(S30V), and a Shabaria.

I looked and bought alot of other knives from other companies, but the Spydies are becoming my genuine knifenut favorites.
How about the full-size Calypso's?

When will we know for certain they are out?

Can we pre-order through this forum some how?? PLEASE SAL?????????!!!:) :)

Parfive, I just realized where I have seen that dancing girl in your avatar. Duke Nukem, maybe?

Dang it, Kevin! Now you've gone and done it. I wish you had waited to post this until I was fully stocked up...:D

Yea, but admit it! Any excuse to by more knives at once is a good one!! ;)

How long is the blade? Looks like a good knife, I really like flat ground blades anyway.

The Calypso Jr. blade is slightly under 3 inches. Yea, I love full flat grind too. My regular flat ground Delica slices great, but my full flat ground Lum Chinese slices like a Demon!!

The Calypso Jr. has to be one of the best small cutters of all time !!! Awsome slicer, and so comfortable. I can't wait. :)

Ok, I can't find the thread where Sal posted this...
He said though, that the swedge on the top of the blade would have less of a point to it, to make it more comfortable when choking up on the blade. He also said that the hump would be more rounded out than coming to a sharp end, also for increased comfort. The FRN handles will also be Grey, as was mentioned before.
