I am a huge fan of spyderco ever since I purchased my PM2. The main reason for this(aside from it being flawless) is the compression lock. I find the compression lock to be perfect in every way as a right handed person. It opens and closes single handedly without fail.

Now, part two.

After dredging through different spyderco knives, I arrived at the Lum Tanto. In my opinion that is the most attractive blade you have produced and I am in the process of trying to find a grey sprint run folder (if someone wants to sell me one, pm plz)

Now the only issue I have with the Tanto, is the lock.
Is there anyway that a new Lum Tanto folder could be made with a compression lock?

Lum Tanto
Compression lock
White/cream G10
Any steel you want to use
Satin finish

How many orders would you require for a run of that?

Also, how many people here would buy said knife?

The rugged Tanto with the security and usability of the compression lock is the knife of my dreams. As for the white, I've always felt like a good shade of white was a very regal(ornate?) color that would fit a knife of such high quality and beauty.

Thank you for listening.

On a smaller knife maybe, but with the size of the blade in question I would prefer a heavier G10 handle.

To each his own.

What your asking for is a complete re-design of a knife. It would require all the R&D steps that any brand new model goes through. Trying to recoup those costs on a 1200 piece Sprint Run would push the price into the stratosphere, or at least to the level of full customs. I'm also not sure why some folks want aZDP-189, a steel not known for toughness, for a tanto blade.

I'm not a custom knife maker but I can't imagine it being that difficult to give it a compression lock. The only part that would really need to change is the blades pivot point.

Maybe I'm just an idiot with a dream.

P.S. Jade G10 would also be sexy.

I think Paul is probably correct on this.

Possibly so, I just can't see how it would be that hard when you already have the PM2. Could you not just grind the tanto onto a blank with the same "tang" as the PM2.

I'll just sit over in my corner and dream some more.

It's fine to dream, I do it all the time. But we need to accept that some are just less likely than others to come true.

Assuming it would only involve changing the shape of the blade, a Sprint Run PM2 with a tanto blade might be possible, as might a Sprint Run tanto bladed knife using the Superhawk/Superleaf frame. A Sprint Run tanto bladed compression framelock based on the ATR handle would probably be feasible as well. That's a whole different thing from changing the lock for just a Sprint Run.

Hi Nolikeit,

As Paul mentioned, it's a totally new engineering project. Every part would be different. You might find a custom maker that is licensed to make Spyderco's and have one custom make?

Nah, we all have dreams of a knife being made just as we want it. We're not idiots for it, and I'm pretty sure most of us do it.

Thing is, if they made a dream knife for each of us they would probably need to make about 1000 models, and of course they can't do that.
I do feel Spyderco gives us more options in knives than any other knife company on Earth.

Or make one in Super Blue or HAP40 (or other close to M4 steel) and make the rest of us happy ;) Antique ivory micarta please Sal :D I'll even promise to not abuse it while sailing...

I have the Lum Tanto sprint. I think the only thing that would make it perfect is tip down clip. It's to long for tip up. Have to slide it around in the hand just to reach the Spydiehole. Otherwise liner lock is great. Compression lock really wouldn't improve anything.

I like the sound of antique ivory micarta too... Get to it Sal. Haha

Well, I guess I'll just have to keep searching for a grey sprint lum tanto. What does a NIB or like new one go for these days?

I still think the compression lock is the greatest, but I agree that tip down would be much better.

Sorry,

we have a few other knives in queue ahead of it. However, some of them are compression locks.
