Which makers have quality modern folders? I only know a handful of custom makers. I would like to get a general feel of what is out there. Could you others out there shout a bunch of names out of makers, and possibly their websites that I can checkout. The more names of good knifemakers, the better. I would greatly appreciate it.

probably the most comprehensive list of makers is the index at the back of Knives 2007. Some guys get left out, but most are there/ Don't forget Ralph "Dewey" Harris from right down here in Florida. He mades some fine looking folders.

Can we get a distinguished service medal for Murray for that list? ;) I read the question and my first thought was man, that's gonna be a lot of typing.

iamerror - coould you maybe narrow down what you might be looking for beyond "quality modern folders"?

Ok, OK!!
The original request was for makers with websites and that is what I tried to provide and by doing so, I got some sites I did not have previously.

Now of course, I only used US makers. There are many non-US folder makers with websites and if those are desired, I can provide many. I

f any of the others that have been listed by other readers have websites, please post them as while I have an extremely comprehensive list of Knifemakers in my Favorites, I always want to add more.

As for the Knives Annual, unfortunately, the publication has not gotten to adding emaill nor website addresses to their listings which might be why the request was originally made.

Ok, here are some international sites

There may be others that I have bookmarked but don't recall if they are folder makers and I just don't have the time to look at every site I have bookmarked.

So, guys, if you have makers and sites please post them as I collect websites like I collect knives. More the merrier!!

Thanks a lot, especially to you Murray! There are a lot of makers that I can look into! By "quality modern folders" what I had in mind is basically knives with locks that are one-handed in opening and closing. (And usually knives that use materials such as g-10, carbon fiber, etc. instead of knives that use materials such as wood, but not necessarily a requirement)

gee, I would not have been able to post much if our definitions of quality folders was the same so hopefully you will find things you like and others will too. thanks guys for some of the links I did not have

Actually, I haven't even looked at all the links you mentioned yet and it has already been very helpful. I do not have to be picky with the materials that I mentioned (it doesn't have to be g10 or carbon fiber). I may step into the custom arena a long way down the road, just not ready to make that jump anytime soon. I am basically just interested in looking at custom folding knives that are not slip-joints and the names that have been mentioned have been great to look at so far. (who knows, maybe I will even look at slip-joints in the future too)

Actually, nowadays, there are not a lot of makers doing slipjoints. Some but not a lot. Also, even the good old mid or rear lock as the liner lock has taken over the market over the past 20 or so years. Glad some of the sites have provided items of interest. BTW there are a lot of terrific dealer sites that have excellent folders available. Let me know if you are interested and I'll try to post them also.

A lot of good names mentioned - another one I'll toss out is Dav Winch out of Australia - he's currently on hiatus, though I'd bet sooner or later he'll start cranking them out again. Unofficial website here - http://www.davorama.com/default.htm

Todd Begg - http://www.beggknives.com/ - surprised I haven't seen his name mentioned yet, his 'glimpse' model in 'lightning strike cf' is a nice looking tactical

RJ Martin - http://www.martinsite.com/ - mentioned but not linked, think I saw one of his in the 'for sale' section here at a good price recently

Tom Ferry - http://tferryknives.com - not really what you're looking for from the sounds of it (not g10, cf), but nice knives nontheless
