Hello all.
I'm feeling a little shaky posting here especially in the wake of Blade 2014 and among some of the most amazing makers in the world. But, here goes. I'm a new member who started making knives in September of 2013. I've always had a passion and actually made a knife when I was about 18 under the direction of a local knife maker. Then life happened. 28 years later I was introduced to a local maker who has a forge and makes his own Damascus. He invited me to try my hand at forging and I was hooked. To date I have made a total of 12 knives and am currently working on #13. I have to thank Cal Ganshorn for the opportunity and sharing his experience. Also, thanks to all the makers out there for the inspiration and the instruction they post on line. It really speeds up the learning curve. Here's a few of my latest.

5160 and Desert ironwood with stainless guard and domed pin. Finished this past Monday

Redwood burl, 1080 and 15n20

Amboyna burl, 1080 and 15n20

Desert ironwood, 5160

5160 and stacked brown micarta

Koa, 1080 and 15n20

Alabama Damascus and micarta

Ebony, 15n20 and 1080

Thanks for looking.

Your doing some nice stuff. I like the first one the most by far. Did you forge any of this? The chef looks useful too. I'd just grind the blade up all the way to the spine and keep it slim. Looks good though keep posting! Don't hesitate.

Keep going your on the right track.....your way ahead of the learning curve.

welcome to the forum :)

Very nice work. From what can be seen in the images your well ahead of many beginning makers. Keep the high standards up and keep sharing.

Don’t be apprehensive your build quality is superb. I’m in love with the military style of the one with 5160 and stacked brown micarta

^ Not a lotta makers doing stacked Micarta. You should experiment more with that. Maybe some contouring and/or finger grooves...

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions everyone. You're comments are a real boost.

Great work! I especially like the first bowie. The stacked micarta is also very interesting, don't see it too often!

Thanks Jonathan. All the Damascus pictured, except the Alabama is made by me.

Welcome to the BF.
Thanks for sharing your knives with us. Very impressive, especially since you have only been at it for less than a year.
Execution, fit, finish, eye for design all seem to be ahead of the curve.
Especially nice handle shaping on the first piece. Handles always seem to be the hardest component for newer makers to master, some never do.

Like your versatility, so early on, in both materials used and the types of knives you have created.
You should have a promising future in knife making if stick to it.

Your work shows taste, care for details, skills and commitment. Way to go :thumbup::thumbup:
