A little backyard backpacking

I'm still recovering from surgery but I needed to try out a new hammock, so I decided to do a little backyard backpacking today. I threw my pack over my good shoulder, grabbed the rifle, and headed out towards the back of my property. I didn’t go far, just out of sight from civilization. It’s a small “designated camp” that I cleared for the family some time ago.

I apologize for the terrible cell phone pics.

I finally got a fire going. It's been really wet for the past two days....

Got base camp set up. My new hammock is nice and comfy....

Headed back in to the woods and found some lunch….

After lunch, I took a snooze in my new rig then packed it up and headed for the house….

Thanks buddy. It is a blessing to be able to get out to the woods without having to first get in a car. I thank the big guy every day for it. I think these are the last of today’s pics. Pretty random.

Hammocks are the best. I use my hennessy hammock all summer long. I fell in love a couple years ago while hiking a steep pass in the Adirondacks. I hadn't eaten all morning and I just didn't have the energy to keep climbing but my ego wouldn't let me turn around so I pitched my hammock on pretty much vertical terrain, took a nap, ate some food, and continued up a couple hours later. Never having to worry about finding a clear flat spot to camp is wonderful.

I agree completely. I've been using the ultra-light (open face) model for a couple of years now. The mosquitoes get pretty bad down here in the summer so I upgraded to integrated bug net I loves me a hammock!
