So, in the current issue of Tactical Knives, Len Waldron wrote a great article reviewing 12 hard working knives. The test was simply put the knives to task butchering feral hogs. I have not personally butchered a whole hog before, but those that know better than I will tell you that those suckers are dense, and wreak havoc on an edge (bring your rods with you!).

The field test was broken down into 3 three catagories; The Gutters, The Skinners, and The Butchers. Our beloved BK-2 was among The Butchers (duh  ) and was very well received! The author seemed impressed with the 2's ability to slice, cut around bones, separating joints, etc. I should also note that another Ka-Bar offering, the JAB Potbelly, was used in the "Butcher" catagory, and it too, received kind words from Mr. Waldron.

Overall it was a decent article and there were several great knives being tested (even an entry from our ESEE brethren  ). In fact, the whole issue was pretty decent... I know they can be hit or miss sometimes, but I like to have something to read when I'm on the crapper!

Good to know that the BK2 is an all around awesome knife isn't it!!

Hmmm... may have to stalk that issue next time I'm in Kroger.

We stalk our game in the same feedin arena. I too stalk TK within the hunting preserve of the Krogers.

Yeah, I never kill it though. I just play with the prey while my wife is buying groceries. :p

I would expect no less... If the BK2 can field stripe a buick, a hog is no issue. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't doubt that the BK-2 did an outstanding job on that hog. However, back in December we shot a hog at our camp and I butchered that hog with a rat, a HOWLING RAT that is!

No surprise there, with the BK2 or the Potbelly. They are both robust outdoor blades. I'd like to see the Potbelly with a 9" blade, 1/4" 1095. That would be a bad ass chopper. I bet it would split a hog length wise rather easily. :D

I was checking out the new issue for another article and ran across that one too. It was a good read. I'm not at all surprised the BK-2 got high marks, I've been using the one I have for different tasks on breaks during other projects as I am working on a full review of it for the general knife review section.

they should have used a Magnum Camp too or it's not a complete test :)

not surprised they liked the BK2.

what were the other knives? was there a clear "winner"?
