A good friend of mine is looking for a good digital camera for all around use. Mostly landscape and portrait, not knives or jewelry type stuff. He'd like to spend under $450.00 if possible but would go to $500 for the right camera.

All right guys you always have the best ideas.

Thanks,
Win

I like the Olympus 3040 for all around digital photog. Plus 3 megapixels and under $500.............Ira

It's a great little camera with real Nikor lenses. Very easy to use and can be had for less than $400.00. I'm sure for $450-$500 you can get a 3megapixel version. One of the things I liked about the Nikon was that it came with a Lithium Ion battery and charger, saving me the hassle of replacing battteries. My 775 is only 2 mp but takes great picturess.

I have a Canon Digital Elph S330. It came with a rechargeable battery and has a 3x optical zoom. The resolution is 2 megapixels, but this is plenty for prints up to 6x8, or possibly even 8x10. It was under $400 from B&H Photo. One of the best things about this camera is the size. It measures approximately 3-3/4" x 2-1/2" x 1-1/4", which means I wind up taking it everywhere.

Nikon CoolPix 885. 3.21 Mega Pixel. Retail 499.95. Usually find them on Ebay new for $399.95.

Win, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the Sunday paper and the ads this week. Sears has my Sony 4.1 megapixel camera (normally never under $599)on sale for $499. Then, I look at the Best Buy ad, and they have it on sale for $399! This is a lot of camera(more than most people need)for a little cash. And, it comes with a charger, so you dont have to spend a lot of money on special batteries. Tell your friend to go get one quick. Did I mention a Carl Zeiss lens too?

I couldn't remember the model number, so had to go and look it up. Here's a picture. Sony S85 Cybershot with 4.1 megapixel resolution and Zeiss lens.

When I bought my Digital the one feature I was
very, very carful of was ......BATTERIES!

I've been bit before on camcorders so I made darn
sure that the camera battery wasn't going to
be an issue when I need the camera the most.

So as a friendly word.....stick with AA batteries.

There are alot of good digitals that use them and
and rechargable AA's are way better now than they
used to be. Look in the 2 to 3 pixel range of the
name brand camaras to find what you'd like to have.
