A Little Coffin Jack For Me

My second handmade slipjoint made for my own collection. I could not find much reference for vintage coffin jacks, and this one is not strictly traditional. The single blade takes it away from that I think. But I do like single blades, they let you fully appreciate the handle ergonomics. A two blade twin is in the making, that will make up for straying away from the usual in this one.
Milled (hand filed) 416 liner, 440C blade and clear mastodon ivory. The shield is pinned.
When the two blade mate is complete, it's on to some Sheffield jacks.
Comments are appreciated.

Absolutely wonderful Wolfgang The bottom angled butt of the knife is one of my favourite aspects on coffin jack and the spartan shield you chose fits it perfectly. Can't wait to see your two blade come to fruition :) I've one from Reese and it's an astounding overlooked pattern for many.

Very nice, Wolfgang! Wonderful execution!

I agree with you Tim. The bevels make for such a nice clean finish. I admire Tony and Reeses work immensely. Even more so now that I know what goes into making these things.

Excellent rendering, sleek and not fussy in any way. Not having studied ancient catalogues, I can't say if a single-blade version did not exist, it actually looks very well in this form so I would not be astonished to find that singles were made.

Great swedge on that and a fine long, frame filling blade. A lot of custom knives put out big handles with short inappropriate blades, they just don't have correct proportions to my eye, this certainly does.

Just wish a manufacturer like CASE Queen or GEC would offer a production version of this knife, one for the knife starved masses:D

Exceptional! Very clean design and grinds. Congratulations on such a fine knife!

What every one else said times 100!!! That is AWESOME!!! John:thumbup:

Closed length is 3 1/2". I think that is somewhat typical for this pattern. A slightly larger size would appeal to me as well though.

I think a little bigger frame would benefit the pattern well. I had a Case/Bose collaboration knife and felt it was a tad small. I like how slender the knife is but another quarter inch on the length would be nice.

What a beautiful knife! Great work.

One fine folder. Just goes to show what a fine piece of art our chosen tool can be.
