A Little Exploring

I have been really busy with new work, and home remodeling lately, so I haven't been posting as much as I'd like. Recently I got the chance to get out to Snoopers Rock for a picnic, hike, and a little skills practice with my daughter. I thought I'd share a few of the pics.

She is just starting to learn about direction and compasses, and maps at the trail heads confuse her, particularly the direction arrows.. So before working on map reading we are still working on direction...

Before the hike we had a nice little picnic together with a roasted chicken, some rolls, and some cheese.

It's only about a mile or so to the bluff but it is an enjoyable hike, more so in the warmer months though, when there is more color...

Little bit, unclogging Chakras :)

We both like the view from Snoopers Rock, I've been going out there for 40 years.

I bought her a cheap pair of binoculars, if she can go a while before she breaks them I'll get her a better pair

We both brought our knives of course, and worked on whittling feather sticks. She has good technique, but I think I need to get her a knife with a taller handle for better control.

We enjoyed our rest at the top of the falls

Then we explored the area and worked on direction

But then the sun was starting down and it was time to go. I'll be glad when the remodeling is done so we can have more time for play :)

Great stuff, my own daughter grew up faster than I thought possible. Trips with our kids are the very best.

Looks like a great trip!

Thanks, it really was a fun trip out.

Thanks Jim, and yeah I already know. My oldest will be 22 her next birthday and is already out on her own. Hard enough now to schedule a coffee date a couple of times a month, much less a hike. I'm milking this second time around for all I can :)

Great stuff! My first thought when I saw this picture, was it should be captioned "Will last longer lost in the wild than most grown men" :)

Nothing better than a day spent with a daughter. Thanks for sharing and thanks for raising her the right way.

Looks like a fun time was had by all!!! Kudos for sharing the pics with us and the adventure with your daughter!! John

Very nice, there's nothing like spending time with our kids in the great outdoors. Get them away from the computers, videogames, and the cities to get some fresh air and spend some quality time with them. Thanks for sharing and I agree that she will survive longer than most grown men these days out in the wild.

Great stuff buddy !

Hey have you had chance to try out the TOPS Frog Market Special ? I've been spending more time in the house using kitchen knives recently than I have woods knives and that one has really caught my interest !

Thanks guys, sorry...life has been crazy lately and I lost track of this post. I always prefer to get her out and about playing and active, rather than sitting in front of the plastic boxes.

Pit, I have handled it, but not really tried it out. Though I do want to give one a go in the kitchen :)
