I finished this little necker trout and bird this morning, ebony and bone handle, flatground blade from L6, ought to make a good little field knife for someone. I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out. The pics were took with my new camera, still figuring out what all the buttons do :D .

Sweet knife MM! I'm glad to see you making real knives as well as f...f...folders!:D

So how was it working the ebony? Hard as I hear?

I think it is time for you to invest in an etcher, if not a nice tang stamp. Your work deserves it!

MuskratMan, nice job!

The pics are fine, outdoor pics of knives always do them more justice.

I have a question about the pins and the tube to hold the handle.
I used 3/16" brass rod from the hobby store, and peened it down to hold my handles. Is there a better way?

Also, the tube you used, is that standard brass tube that has been flared?

Or, do you use pin material pre-made for the job?

I've looked at supply houses, I find a lot of small pins, like for folders, but not heavier stuff.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Again, very nice job, I wish my fit and finish was half that nice.

thanks for the comments fellas.
Benchmade Boy, yes I plan to start on a sheath for it sometime this week.

Codger, yes, fairly hard, prone to cracking but great stuff to work with (or maybe I'm just crazy?) I've been engraving my mark on them, just didn't mark this one before I took the picture. I plan to have a stamp made and/or get an electro etcher.

Skunk, I use brass pin stock, you can get it from any knife supply house like jantz or texas knife makers supply, it comes in lengths of 12" you can alsoi get it in nickle silver, stainless and copper (I think). Same goes for the lanyard tubing you can get it in 12" lengths from the same places in the same materials. What you did will work fine, some peen them, some glue them, some do both, I usually epoxy the handles on and have the pins there for insurance, I have peened a few and it gives them a "rustic" look. Good luck.

awesome work! shows great detail:thumbup: looks to be a perfect bird and trout or detailing knife!

Great looking knife MM. That ricasso is cut in really well!!!

Skunk. McMaster-Carr sells umpteen million pin materials. I know you already use them, makes it easy. Scratch the surface up with a dremmel or a file, and epoxy them in. I peen sometimes too, but usually, I just glue. Some guys use superglue to glue them in too.

Thanks Muscrat!

Fiddleback, for epoxy on a full tang knife, I was thinking a couple of extra small holes drilled through, a place for the epoxy to connect from one side to the other.

i got the brass rod at the hobby store, probably paid through the nose, but at $1.99 for 12" it was too easy! they have brass tube, as well, for the lanyard hole.

I'l chceck Mcmaster on my next steel order.

thanks guys!
