So a couple of months back, a very reasonably priced, damascus bladed Tenable Fenrir with blue anodized aluminum scales caught my eye.

I ended up pulling the trigger and after its arrival, I was very pleased with the look of the damascus style blade. The overall quality of the folder was about what I’ve come to expect from Tenable. The fit and finish was nicely executed and the action on the button actuated top liner lock was exceptionally smooth. I particularly appreciate Tenable’s default blade geometry which is typically kept relatively thin behind the edge bevel rendering their folders very slicey. If there was any minor downside at all to the knife for me, it was only in finding that the bluish color of the scales was slightly less appealing to my eye in person, than it was when viewing the item online.
Not long after, Tenable unveiled a new orange bladed variation of the Fenrir that was being introduced just in time for Halloween. I immediately chuckled at the holiday marketing genius. I can only imagine how many pumpkins succumbed to this bad boy last month. But what really jumped out at me was the excellent looking carbon ply scales.

It was at this point that the lightbulb suddenly came on. I couldn’t help but imagine how nice those carbon scales would look with my damascus blade. Needless to say, a second purchase was made and within hours of arrival, the elves were hard at work. The result was pretty much exactly how I envisioned it might be.

So while I couldn’t be happier with my Frankenstein creation, the bonus is that I also now have the perfect blue and orange stocking stuffer for my niece who’s a recent Boise State Bronco alum.
