~Hey guys, I'm a vintage automatic knife collector and out of my element of expertise, and asking for some advice. I'm an avid camper and bushcrafter and would like to buy my next, and hopefully last, fixed blade knife. Obviously a Busse.
I'm not a rich man, but I don't hold back on tools. I would like 8- 10"'s of the finest uncoated Infi, thick blade (.23" range), and something that you would consider as variable use; something that will go from batoning to filleting.
I'll be at blade this year where I hope to take all your advice and pick from there, (I need to hold the piece before commiting to that kind of $, (I can't go better than $300 US).
I appreciate any and all advice, if I can ever reciprocate with any of you fine folks E me.

skinny Heart would be great a little over the 300.00 though about 350.00

Maybe a SARsquatch ?

It will be kind of hard to get that size busse (8 to 10") for 300.00

Have you thought about Busse's sister company, either Scrapyard or Swamp Rat?

Thanks David...I should be budgeting for $400 shouldn't I...
I'm open to suggestions Liu, although I do like everything behind the choil as well as what's up front. I like the idea of talon holes.
I would like canvas micarta too, better for wet grip. My last long term user was a leather ring handled buck, and I lost that ice fishing, (frozen leather on frozen leather either sticks or slips).
Much appreciated...more please.

Just admiring the SARsquatch & skinny ash (same as skinny heart?).
This is definitely not going to be easy. I'm mid forties, this may very well be my life'r, and I'm not real gentle.
So bump that to $400, but that's has to be max. I guess one of the guys is bringing moonshine to the show so I'll probably save $100 on beer for at least one night anyway ;)

SARsquatch sounds like a great one

I would stop by the booth at blade and see what is offered there. Handle some of the models that fall into the size range you're looking for. Nothing like being able to fondle a knife before you decide and see how it feels to you...

Guaranteed. This will be my 3rd year there and I was turned on to Busse by this one global trekker while in the early admission line and another fella in the pit who hunted gators old school style. I'm originally from North of the 49th and the stories this bayou boy told were just like those from home but yet from a different world.
Yeah, I'll be at the booth this year when I manage to scramble through the admiring crowd.
It's always busy at the Busse booth. But like I said; for that kind of coin I'll be handling before purchase.
Thanks guys, all input is appreciated.

Bang for your buck the DSF or Sarsquatch are hard to beat, and I really like the way they feel.

ash-1, back to the future, don't listen to these muse hogs, skinny ash, let it be made, let it be done.

.

So, budget bumbed to $400 huh? 8"-10"?

NMSFNO!!

I know you say uncoated INFI, but I stripped this and there was no sign of INFI dimples

Filleting might be tricky, but I'm not saying it can't be done with it. Just takes practice.

Nice choice amigo. You will most certainly enjoy your busse... whichever you choose.

My two favorites are the NMSFNO (nuclear meltdown special forces natural outlaw)...

Or the venerable Basic 11... 11 inches of INFI with the comfort of a resperene handle.

While at the Busse booth slide down to the Swamp Rat table and handle a Chopweiller. Eric usually has a nice selection at Blade.

Assuming that you only want busse combat and are not asking for scrap yard or swamp rat, these are kind of your only options unless I'm missing something. These are in the 287-347$ range. most of the larger knives are giong to push you into the 350$+ catagory.

Desert Storm fighter
Sarsquatch
Basic 11
Bush Wacker Mistress

ASH1 is a bit under the size your looking for with a blade length of 6.5. If your into that size range, the BOSS jack is an excellent option.

It's possible that there will be a cg steel heart for under 400$, but it's more likely that it will be in a custom shop configuration with a higher price tag, same for the NMSFNO, and definitely the same thing for the sar8 which will run you 400$+ in any configuration.

The basic 11 is by far the most bang for your buck, but it does have the resiprene c handle (either good or bad depending on if you like resiprene c), the BWM is a good chopper but both not as light and not as blade heavy as the basic 11, so it will carry heavier and be less efficient for it's weight while chopping. The sarsquatch is a good compromise between everything, something you could do small tasks with but can chop well. The desert storm fighter is the absolute most compact of the bunch and is excellent for light carry but bomb-proof batoning action, however it's pretty thick in all regards. It's not a tall blade yet it sports a 3/4 saber grind, and it's thick at the edge and tip. So yeah, it's compact, but it's also really burly and not great as a slicer.

I have a SarQ as my mid sized blade. I had an Ash1 CG (combat grade) and sold it just because it was .32. fun, but not exactly a kitchen slicer, food prep star.

The SAR Q is robust enough for anything short of safe or axle prying, etc. Big enough to chop decent, thin enough and enough blade height to make a decent food prep knife for the size. Awesome all arounder!

Also great for the money, Boss Jack! No coil option!

Great time to be getting into INFI. You might also want to take a look at the War Dog!!!!!! 5 inch blade of Infi and RES C!!!!!! A steal under 200!
