I wasn't sure where to post this thread and since the knife was purchased second hand, thought I'd try it here before asking RHK directly for help/advice...

While trying to center the blade following the suggestions many posts here on the forums, I tightened and loosened the screws dozens of times. Well, then this happened while tightening.

Picture of what I'm talking about...

First, has anyone had this happen before? I'm a pretty small guy with office hands :D and surely didn't expect this...Wondering if this is something I need to watch out for in general before I end up breaking other screws...

Second, Could anyone give me a suggestion how to go about taking the screw body out? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I have never had this happen on any of my XMs.

In order to get the screw out, I would remove the scale & the titanium liner, and then the spacer of the broken screw. That should give enough access to the remains of the screw, to get it out using a small set of pliers. Good luck!

Looks like over-tightening and whatnot over time, etc. but that little bugger's threads may be inside the female part of the assembly. So you'll need new parts. E-mail the Ranch and maybe those Monkey Edge guys to buy pieces.

Thank you for the responses! I'll need to be careful next time. Didn't think I was tightening it that hard.

Now, let's see if I can get the broken screw out :) thanks for the suggestion if removing the frame. That may give me juuuust enough to grab the broken end of the top of the screw.

Cheers!

Sorry this happened. Never seen that before. You should be able to simply push the female side out completely then deal with it outside of the knife. Once the head of the screw breaks off there is nothing but friction keeping it in there.

Surely, you don't need to be sorry :)

I'll take your advice and take a shot at removing this later. Will keep you all posted!

Thanks again to everyone!

When RHK first started producing their flat head hex drive scale screws, there was an issue where the female portion of the hex was too deep and not having enough material left in the screw head allowing them to twist off too easily. RHK replaces those problematic screws under warranty so I would contact Rob as you may have a set of those screws on you Gen 3.

Once you remove the scale/liner, you will have easy access to the broken screw for easy removal.

Thank you RDA! That is a great insight!

However, I'll just look for another set of new screws as mine was purchased second hand and don't feel right about asking for warranty service.

Cheers!

Clearly do as you see fit, but the Hinderer warranty has no such exclusion. If you still don't feel right asking RHK, I'll send you a set, PM me your address.

You guys are simply amazing. Happy to be part of this community.

Hope I can be of some help to others in the future as you all have done on this thread.

Good news! As suggested, I simply took the pin out completely and there was enough thread exposed that I was able to unscrew the broken portion with my thumb!

I'll get a set of screws and put it back together!

Thank you thank you thank you!!! :D
