A little hike with my best buds

A nice crisp sunny day today that pretty much demanded a hike back to the swamp. Grabbed my kitchen help, our dog, a BK 14 and headed out.

Here's our hiking bud Penny. Somebody dropped her off a while back and we found her half starved and scared to death hiding under the truck.

The swamp is a short hike out the back door. We're almost to the bluff and here's looking back at the casa de Trades.

The walk in passes our favorite camp spot.

Down the bluff and you're in 8200 acres of blackwater cypress swamp.

That water is pretty chilly, but Penny can't resist chasing a woodpecker.

Found a nice comfy log to sit and whittle a bit.

Found a great spot for a shelter. Even a cane thicket behind it for shelter building material. Should have done the cold weather challenge here.

We really enjoy hiking back there and just wanted to take y'all with us for once.

Awesome pics and very nice story! I live out in the country also and wouldn't trade it for anything... Nearest Walmart is about 45 miles away. I love the serenity and space, hate cities!

Nice pics Trade and good on you for taking in Penny. My folks have taken in dropped off dogs in the past and the dogs have turned out be incredible companions.

Thanks man. Checkup, shots, spaying, igloo doghouse (heated bed of course), chew toys etc...etc. She's a five hundred dollar dog. Kay has totally spoiled her to death but she's worth every dime...:D

Nice post man, brings back a lot of memories. Been a while since I hung out in the southern cypress swamps.
