Got an order for a forge finish small hunter. The guy was very specific about the measurements but he's an old friend so I listened (second time around :p)
The carving in the sheath is from a drawing he sent me.

Here's the result.

O1 steel.
blade 2 3/4"
OAL 5 3/4"
handle- spalted maple

This one was edge quenched 3x's (as in Ed Fowler's dvd) and it produced an interesting band of finish between the edge quenched area and the forge finish. It's got a pebbled texture and I think it really adds interest. If anyone has an explanation, I'd be much obliged. :)

Thanks for looking.

Hi Stuart, that sure is a cute lil' hunter
And the handle really matches the finish of the blade :)
Should looks very pretty in my small hand ;)

mohd.

Very nice package. Esp the Sheath, it looks really well done.

Did you happen to do any testing with the blade (or a similiar) after using the triple quench method?

Thanks for sharing!

I don't have a good rod to check edge flex (must get something) but I did some cut tests on 1/2" manilla rope and stopped at 150 because of a blister. (the scales weren't on it yet). It was still cutting but it was slowing a little. Nothing showing on the edge and I took it back to the leather belt on my 1" x 42" sharpening set-up and it was shaving sharp in a few passes so I think it's pretty good.

Thanks guys.

I thought I'd post this pic to show the size in the hand. The guy who's getting it was kind of shocked to see how small it really is.
