I picked this up at an antique store earlier today. I have several other Buck sheath knives, but none this old I don't think. I believe it's a 121 or a 105, correct? There isn't a model number anywhere on the knife or sheath. It is similar to my Dad's 121 (pictured alongside it below), but there are some significant differences. Any info as to the model and age from the experts here would be greatly appreciated.

This one is not my area, but I will bet a quarter that it is not a 121 but a 105. Someone of authority will be along shortly.....300Bucks

Yours is a 105. Below is a picture of a 121 over a 105, both newer than yours of course but still the same blade profile. I can only tell you off the top of my head, that yours was made prior to 1972. I can't tell from your picture what kind of spacer material is in it and that will help to pin the date down closer.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly that won't have to rely on his notes (which I can't find right now :o) and give you a better idea of it's age.

Buck added the USA stamp in 67 I believe and model numbers in 72. So you have a 67-72 year range.
It is a 105.

Your spacers look to me to be micarta, which should put that 105 from 1969-1972

Sorry, But I disagree, The spacers are hard fiber, making the manufacture date 1967-'69. I'm 99.9% Sure of it, and the other .1% would be had if a closer picture was taken. In addition the sheath is a pre 1969, based on the embossed lines running down the belt loop.

No correction, we all are here to learn. Sometimes the clues are not in the knife. The whole hard fiber/ Micarta spacer thing takes practice. They can look so similar and if your not careful you end up buying something you didn't want.

Thanks for your patience matt, I am compiling notes on the 100 series and am begining to see that I don't know what I don't know, if you catch my drift.
I add each tidbit to my notebook as I learn them, thanx as always, for the info that you provide here.

Yes, you can see the spacers pretty well in his second pic and they do look like fiber, I agree.

That Micarta will usually show some grain or texture, where the fiber will show pretty blank or some really straight, untextured lines.

Fiber usually a dark, dead-looking red, (reminds me of clay) but Micarta has a little more life to it. Both can vary quite a bit, though.

As MBJ says, a closeup pic can sometimes surprise you.
