it's been over a month since I got a 20 mile run in, so Saturday with unseasonably warm weather for December, I figured I better shit or get off the pot :D

you need a fair amount of calories on a long run, here's what I took- 1/2 p&j sandwich, fig newtons (these are great), Clif shot blocks (chew one every 1/2 hour), the handheld holds a mixture of Hammer Heed and Perpetuem- not the greatest tasting stuff, but it's good nutrition on the fly, the baggie holds another mixture for the 1/2 way point, the "pills" are electrolytes- take two every hour, the Mojo bar rides along for emergency rations

the area I run is remote and the chances of running into someone are almost nil (I never saw a soul the entire trip) so I need to pack accordingly. for extra clothing I carried a fleece vest, windshirt, light beanie, light gloves, a buf and a one ounce rain jacket. for emergencies I carried a two person heat sheet, signal mirror, whistle, small sak, photon light, small headlamp, a small fire kit and small fak

additional items- small anti-chaf, compass/map and tp

all packed comfortably into my Mountain Hardwear Fluid 6

it truly was a gorgeous day- high 40's when I started, high 50's when I finished- very unusual for this time of year, but no complaints from me

about 7 miles of this loop was new to me, which was nice

saw quite a bit of wildlife- golden eagle, sharptail grouse, mule deer, antelope- couldn't get the camera out in time on any of it, oh well

it had been quite awhile (probably my last 20 mile run) since I've been in the pain cave, but can say I was in it pretty good for the last 4-ish miles of this trip

I was definitely hammered when I was done- drank a big recovery drink, ate a big supper and went to bed at 8:00!

Feel pretty good today, took a nice easy run along the Yellowstone this evening to keep the soreness at bay, probably hit the sack pretty early again tonight though :D

you take nice pictures while running, looks like a nice place to run,and good weather to boot good times

Hey, ......................I see no phone in your load. Are you out of cell range there or just enjoying the peace?

no cell phone coverage, possibly at some of the very highest spots- probably should test that theory- probably make my wife a little happier :D

Great stuff buddy, I struggle doing 20 miles in the car !!!

You've got me craving Fig newtons now, not had them in years !

thanks gents :)

it was a re-discovery for me w/ the fig newtons, turns out they are pretty common fare at aid stations during long distance runs (found that out at the Bridger Ridge Run this August)

Nice pics.
Reminds me of the Medora area in ND where I we used to visit when I was a kid.

you are absolutely spot on w/ that assessment :), the Medora/Teddy Roosevelt Park/National Grasslands is very similar topography/vegetation to what we have here in SE Montana- we don't have the roaming buffalo though :D

Always look forward to your excellent posts

Thank you kind Sir!
