I've had this little JK handmade knives fire kit for a while now. It's not a main user I carry but it's a neat little kit to break out and have fun with, thought I'd take you guys along for the ride this time.

Here is the knife and firesteel in it's sheath along with the little bit of wood for the fire. When I ordered this I ordered it to match my first custom knife and also ordered extra matching firesteels, couple misch metal and couple standard ones if I remember correctly.

Here's a closer up shot of the knife and firesteel.

Fire prep. Very small batonning and splitting, scraped the inner bark for fuzz and made a few shavings. Bark off to the side as extra tinder.

After a couple strikes with the firesteel there is fire. The fuzzy stuff burned up much faster than I thought it would, glad I had the extra bark sitting off to the side. I should've made a lot more shavings too. My prep wasn't exactly great but it got a viable fire started that I could've kept going easily. At least I was able to find super dry wood.

Well there ya have it, simple and to the point. Hope you enjoyed the read. :)

I made those in a bunch of styles, this one was a miniature of his camp knife.

Thanks guys and yw. It is a neat little knife, all the chicks think it's "cute". lol

And you're close, John. But I gotta remind you, it's a copy of the first custom knife I got from ya. Same handle material, liner color, etc. They make a cool pair.

Cool machine!

We had a Gathering where the contest was simply the first person to get a fire started with materials found on site and only a fire stick.

It was interesting, as the materials available were damp from the dew overnight; not as easy as it looks!

Thanks - cool post!

Bluegill fire kits would be the perfect pocket companion. Just sayin' (biased).
