Call me stupid, but today I bought a knife as a present and I opened it up to check it out, and now I can't close it. I have no experience with knives, I was just a little curious. But now I can't close it for the life of me. Not wanting to lose all my fingers, I thought I'd come to you guys for help.

It's a crkt m16-01k

Hold the knife in your right hand. You know the side of the knife that's touching your palm? Underneath that side is the liner. It's what keeps the knife locked in the open position. Press down the liner down towards the palm side. It should disengage the lock. Being very careful to keep your fingers out of the way, proceed to close the knife. Voila! You've just cycled your new knife for the very first time. Congratulations. :D

Maybe you should demonstrate this also to the recipient of your gift.

For clarification, the palm side that I spoke of is also the side that has the clip. Sorry if that caused any confusion.

Wow! That was a lot easier than all the other methods I had been trying! Luckily, the boy getting this is used to knives!

Thanks so much!

My pleasure. After all, you're one of us.

something else ya might want to watch out for is these M16's, I have read are notorious for locking up a bit too tight where the liner meets the blade.. so much that I had to use a small flat blade screw driver to get it to let loose and release.. But after treating it with Militec-1 synthetic dry weapons lubercant, I have not had any more problems with it and it is like hot butter..
