Thought I'd share this latest piece.

It's a kwaiken of low layer count 1084/15n20 damascus. The blade is about 3 5/8" long with an OAL of 7 1/2".
Black cotton ito with Dragon coiled on ken silver menuki.

The photos show the effect of different lighting. Considering the low layer count I purposely left the contrast as minimal as possible.

The maker's mark is something new. I had to get some stencils made so I got a 1/2 sheet of the "Buranson" in Katakana for my Japanese inspired pieces. Since it is a little much to put 5 characters on such a small blade, I put the "So" character over the "Bu" character to allude to my initials, "SB". A little hokey maybe but I really like how it looks.:p Ernie's stencil turned out great!

Here's the pics. The angle makes some of the contrast look more than it is. The contrast looks most like the 4th and 5th photos.

Thanks for looking.

very nice my friend.

I really like it, too !
Fan of low layer and that's a nice pattern.
Nice wrap, excellent kwaiken.

Sweet!!!! The low layer look really fits this style, I think.

I think I see a bit of up-sweep on that tip... forged in?

Great looking knife, man - I really dig it!

That would make a honey of a small carry piece. I dig it a bunch.

Great looking damascus Kwaiken Stuart:thumbup: Is that a Tibetan Dorje at one end of the menuki?

I'll second all the previous points.
In addition I think it would make a dandy little hunter Stuart.

Thanks very much everyone. I carried this piece today and got the best compliment from a non knife person. She said:
"That's beautiful. I've never used that word for a knife before..." Hopefully one more convert down the road.

Yes I did forge it in. This was a parks50 job all the way.

Is that a Tibetan Dorje at one end of the menuki?

There is a dorje/vajra/dokko at one end.

Another great piece, Stuart.....nice job on your new stencil. :)
