A little oil

Picked up a very nice Ray Cover slipjoint from a guy who was getting rid of it because it was too stiff. It was; very stiff to open and almost dangerous to close. I've been oiling it and working the blade open and closed for just about a week now, and it's made one heck of a difference. This wll never be a "flip open" blade, and I wouldn't want it to be, but it's a heck of a lot easier to use after just a little lube.

I'm making a resolution to try a little patience and oil to limit the friction this coming year.

Happy New Years to you all from Kuwait!

I have had many Ray Cover knives, that when new, after about a dozen cycles, they seem to stiff up. I'd flush them out with oil a few times & cycle, after this process they seemed smooth & positive as the best of 'em.
Ray's spring tension is usually pretty firm
To me,it seemed it was never a "gauling" problem, tang & spring, because the spring never dropped.
Ray uses a pivot bushing on his pivots,so I suspect it was just a "bust in" thing.

Its amazing what a little oil will do. Look at some of the old slip joints that have been layin around for years, with little use, and no oil. Not smooth, and have little or no snap. A good cleaning and some oil worked in, will sometimes make a "dead" knife come to life, and bring back the old snap.

BTW, pics are always good :D
