Recently, I've been getting more and more into good, solid economical field gear. It's been driving some new ideas here at ATC as well. After spending as much time as we have at military installations, we're learning that most Armed Services Personnel just DON'T have the personal resources to take expensive equipment to the field. And what they DO take is not much different than what I outline below.

Just for fun, I took my Sony Cam out to the local field archery course today with the following items...notice the pricing.

Vietnam Tomahawk, Field Grade: MSRP $129.95

Std. Ka-Bar: MSRP $61.87

Swiss Army Trailmaster: MSRP $37.00 (if bought separately)

Survival Sheath Systems Essential Survivor: includes SAK Trailmaster, WSI FireStarter, Photon lvl III Microlight...ALL in a custom chest rig: MSRP $99.95

Survival Sheath Systems Double Shoulder Harness: MSRP: $99

...now we all know there are pieces of equipment in this list that can be had even less expensively than the MSRP. I just list the full retail in support of the respective manufacturers.

There is nothing that cannot be done with this set-up in my opinion. There are custom knives and expensive pieces of gear out there that total three and four times as much as ALL this stuff...and I love some of them.

But, the reality lately for me has been value. Value in your gear...value in the performance.

Check out the cool album at ImageStation for some pics and remarks about taking this stuff to the field, as a regular guy, in my regular town. ;)

Enjoy!!!

Way cool pics!!!
If you don't mind, I've got to link this to the hoodlums forum!!!!

After seeing you create fire, have you gotten any of Ron's videos???

Ron sent me Woodsmaster 11, as our Rogers' Rangers Spike Hawk was featured in it among other cutting tools...he's quite the expert, while being modest and good humored...and a good friend to ATC, as is Ray Tougas and Brian Jones from Ron's camp.

I like the "lift and seperate" action of the chest harness - does it come with an underwire?

2 hours for 3 miles? Sounds like you are ready for the Best Chairborne Ranger Challenge! :D

See you on Thursday / Friday ya bastid!

Kevin

Andy, the only thing I would recomend,as far as knives go, trade in your Ka-Bar for one of the new BK&T BK-7 knives. A better knive and foir $10.00 less!!!;)

Also, You can carry som survival goodies in the handle, like Eric did with his SASS .

You'll definately be good to go!!!;)

Great pictures.Great testomonial(sp) The only thing wrong is you didn't call me to go with you.;) :p

Andy,

Friendship goes both ways -- and you have been a true friend!

Anything you need, you got it, anytime.

:)

Best,

Brian.

Way Cool! Didn't know you were a brother trad. archer as well Andy!
Nice tastes in bows as well as tomahawks.

Just brought the family back from camping at the North/South Carolina Traditional Archery Tournament. Every one of us had a blast, including my 6 and 2 year old daughters. Rowan, my six year old, was shooting in the cubs group, which unfortunately goes up to age 11. She did pretty good considering that neither of us has practiced in at least 8 months. At one point she scored a perfect center shot with her longbow on a bear target at about 17 yards. She was ecstatic. When we left, she had scored out at #7 out of 28 cubs.

I'm also teaching her how to throw a tomahawk as well. She can actually stick it on occassion from about 5 - 7 yards. It's a cheap light hawk. She's gonna be impressive in about 12 years...

Wow. Did you see the ARMS on that guy?

I thought those pics were a sneak peek at the new Rambo movie...

:D
