At 62, I've been on statin drugs for about 15 years. Never had any problems.
Last week, mowing the lawn for the first time this year, I experienced a little tightness in the chest and slight difficulty in breathing.

Chalked it up to a Winter of inactivity...

Thursday, on the way back to work, I climbed the 3 flights of stairs to the local Metrolink and had the same thing...Started to worry. I called my primary-care guy and he said "get your butt in here."

In very short order I was in the hospital cardiac ward awaiting a catheterization. Sure enough, I had a considerable blockage in one of the "descending" arteries.
They did the roto-rooter job and applied stents, and I went home Saturday.

Overall, an amazingly painless procedure. They don't even call this an "operation" anymore. I got much praise from all the docs for coming in promptly; they said a very high percentage of folks ignore such symptoms.

I should be able to go back to work Monday.

Glad you're okay.

That's a lesson for all of us to remember -- not to ignore the signs.

Prayers sent to you, and thank you from the next set of guys that will be walking the same hiking trails of life as you. I will keep your words of wisdom for when I get to my sixties, a little under 2 decades to go. Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise of course.

Prayers up for you from Concord.

Now go buy yourself a new knife. That's what we all do; makes us feel better. :D

thx - cpr

Good to hear that all is well.

Way to go, and be ahead of the game, and come out a winner. Too many ignore the warning signals.

M.,

Glad to hear that you caught it in time.

Myself, I just had a single bypass a few weeks ago. Same type of thing, getting easily winded with chest pain, and a stress test found my blockage.

I'm only 41 years old...:(

Good luck.

Glenn

Hey I am happy it went well for you, mwerner.

My father had the same thing done after his heart attack.

This stuff scares the heck out of me. One of the reasons I keep myself fit and healthy as a way of life.

Here's what I found kind of remarkable.... About 30 years ago, I had taken a job with the security department at this very hospital after leaving the local county PD. (I was only there for a few months before taking my present position)
At the time, they were just installing the brand-new cutting-edge cardiac catheterization facility.
This was something out of a sci-fi novel at the time, with a big glassed-in area for the patient, huge banks of monitors and scanners, enormous computers with big tape drives...Quite a show.
When I had my "procedure" (they do not even call this an operation) I was wheeled in to a little room where a computer-sized scanner was ready. No big room, no banks of equipment....Kind of dissapointing!
I was awake through the whole thing, and never felt a twinge. Was able to see most of it from the corner of my eye. Had it done Friday, went home Saturday....
Kind of amazing.

I have 5 stents in my heart. You gotta love technology! Glad your procedure went well.
