The wife and I went to the getaway this past weekend, and took a little ride in the area. Did a little sightseeing. No hiking, nothing fancy, just some of what it looks like in the area.

This is about 5 or so miles down the road from me. It's Stout Creek. Obviously the bridge:

Sort of a shut ins:

The fence must have taken some time to make:

Becker content added. The good ol 14:

A few more miles, and you're in Arcadia. A lighthouse:

A caboose in Ironton:

Iron County courthouse:

This was taken at a place called Tip Top Roadside Park. A camera never really picks up depth too well. Much cooler in real life:

Another little creek along the way. Whatever it is about water, I like being around it:

Up along the road. I wanted to take some photos of the rock outcroppings, but there was just no room to stand on the side of the road:

We stopped in at Millstream Gardens for a smoke. There were some kayakers there. The St. Francis River in renowned for kayaking:

White water canoes:

Always thought these type kayaks looked odd. I guess they're fun though, from what the lady was telling us:

Back at the lane to the cabin. Sun setting:

Had a few rum and Cokes:

Again, the sun setting behind the valley:

Sun through the lanyard hole shot. Would have been better if it would have been focused:

The father in law gave us a few stoves some time back, and I never even checked them out, just took them to the cabin. I thought they were both these type Coleman stoves:

Two quart pot it came in:

The stove. I kind of had to laugh at the lightweight thang, haha. It weighs about 300 lbs, with fuel of course:

Anywhos, when I opened the box the other stove was in, I was quite surprised:

Yep, an old Primus:

Even had a few cleaning needles:

And instructions:

Very cool stove. Gonna get them both cleaned up, and fire 'em up.

I leave you with the final shot, the remaining bit of pork steak we had that night, with the 14 to cut it up with. Hey, food and knives, can't go wrong there:

We had another fun weekend. A 3 dayer, to be exact. Lows in the upper 20's, with highs around 45 to 50 on Monday. Beautiful weather.

Thanks for looking.

Nice pics Dubz. Great stonework in the area. Love that Primus; should clean up nice. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks man. Not my usual type thread, but I had the photos, and thought what the hell. I found out the stove is a Primus Model 71.

Hey Dubz......as always, your thread is filled with a bucket of awesomeness! I really think you should start a hiking/scenery magazine or something of that nature. You just have an eye for that sweet spot in the landscape.
Thanks for the pics:thumbup:

except for the stabbing of a tree or two that you weren't going eat, pretty cool trip :D

That lighthouse shot is a beauty!! They are all nice though. :)
Thanks for stowing us away on your weekend.

Thanks man. That would be cool.

Thanks for sharing! Looks like a good time. I fully support the rum and cokes!
Thanks man. The rum and Cokes were stout, haha. I hate a weak drink.

Thanks man. Hey, I was just defending myself. You don't understand how bad the trees can be in the Mark Twain, haha.

Wow just wow! All I can say Warrior. Brilliant mate.
Thanks man, we had fun. We always have good intentions of getting out and doing something while down there, but once we get there, we're content just to be at the cabin. You can see what we miss though. There's a lot more to see. The Mark Twain National Forest is a big place.

Outstanding pics, Dubz. I love seeing what the outdoors looks like in other parts ofthe world - especially when the photography is so excellent. Gotta love the playboaters! Who, me? Cold? Any chance to get out and have some fun....those odd looking kayaks - squirt boats - are pretty fun if you know what you're doing (which I do not). I have a good friend that paddles something that looks the same, but it's technically a canoe because you kneel in it and use a single blade paddle. I couldn't even get myself into the thing, and he's bigger than I am.

Another little creek along the way. Whatever it is about water, I like being around it:

Me , too. Probably explains how I ended up with the ocean in my back yard.

I've got a question, though: Why is there a lighthouse in the middle of a sea of grass and vegetation? What on earth is it lighting the way for?

Thanks man. The "lighthouse" is actually in a golf course, haha. Just for looks.

Great pics bud. And I know what you mean about water. It draws me to it. Especially smaller creeks and streams. I see something like that and I immediately start Creek walking, exploring everything I can like I'm ten years old again. It's funny how we can lose sight of the little things as we grow, and in a moment be brought right back.

Nice pics.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, appreciate it.

Thanks man. I hear ya. I love the water. My wife does too, and usually ends up wading in it. She didn't this time, but the cold doesn't stop her, haha.
