I've noticed a few people complain about slight gapping between scales and tangs when gluing up their knives. I have figured out an easy way to overcome this (other than insuring everything is absolutely flat). Simply mix some color into your epoxy! For pure colors I use Testor's model paint (a little goes a long way, and I think the epoxy weakens the more you use). If you are using wood scales or something unusual, instead of trying to match it with colors, simply mix dust from the scales in with the epoxy and that colors it pretty convincingly.

Those sheets of fiber liner do a really good job of hiding cracks between guards/bolsters and handles too, just be sure to put black as the layer next to the guard. I glue mine to the ends of my slabs after fitting slab and then grind flush before final glueup. I haven't tried using them as the traditional liner between slab and tang, I'm a little concerned about it weakening the bond there though.
