I decided to go out for a walk this morning. I have not been in the woods in about 3 months
so I thought it was about time. I decided to take my JK just in case.
I also took my machete just in case I found a piece of wood that needed to come back with me. I knew that it was cool out but was not sure of the actual temp but if you look at the handle on my knife in this photo you can see that it was cold.
I had just dropped it in the snow and picked it up and wiped it off before I stuck it in this tree. The moisture that got on the handle frosted over in about 30 seconds, and that is with it in my hand. Since I was out I figured I would look a some Osage that I could make a bow out of in the near future. Then I realized just how hard it is to find a piece that is even some what straight. All of these pics are of osage and it shows just how wild of a tree this stuff is.
This last one looks like it will work it is arrow straight. On my way back I came across somethings dinner
Best I can figure is this small deer was trying to cross this little creek and fell and broke something. It is a pretty steep ditch that I have fallen in myself. Unfortunately I was not able to chop down any of the limbs I wanted because they were incredibly hard. My machete is crazy sharp (working as a surveyor what else would you expect) but when I would swing at these trees it would just deflect off of them. Next time I will take my chainsaw.
