Here is something I have been looking forward to showing off for a couple years actually.

There's a bit of a story to it.

This is the very first blade I successfully quenched with Hamon. It was made to be a gift for a very special lady who I teach Okinawan Shuri-Ryu to, she has basically adopted most of the class.

All entirely handmade by me, the fittings are Wrought Iron and Copper, full Same Underwrap with purple Silk Ito and a Buffalo Horn Mekugi.

The blade is 5 inches long of W1, water quenched. The blade was made when I FIRST started making knives and was made without any power tools at all, just files, sandpaper and stones.

i don't know alot about traditional jap. blades and wraps and what's authentic but i know what i like....and i LIKE this one....great job for sure....ryan

I like the knife, but the background story is cool too.
It's nice to see that an early effort can produce such a nice looking implement. Can't wait to get started on my first!

Stephan That is very nice and the story even better. I really enjoy seeing your work thanks.

Beautifully done. I think a menuki would have added to the look and improved the grip, but it would have covered up the buffalo horn mekugi, and that's probably something you didn't want to do.

yeah, either cover the Mekugi or cover the Emperor node, neither of which was a good option IMO,

I'm gonna be getting into Wakazashi a good bit this year and that won't be a problem
