A lot of knife for under $20.00!

Nice knife! How is the lockup on it? They remind me of customized Opinels which is good. I read somewhere where the finish on them wasnt so hot and thats what kept me from getting one. Do they lock closed & open? Thanks!

Hi pogo,

Yes, the knife locks closed and open. The lock is a little stiff which is a good thing, IMO. When locked, it's solid.

As for the finish, the ebony handle and the lock are beautifully finished, but there were a lot of "scratches" in the satin finish on the blade. So I used a super fine, sanding pad and replaced the satin finish. It took about 10 minutes and now it is perfect.

I am very happy with it!

I note you can also get one with beech wood handle (instead of ebony) for under $13. I might have to check these out.

Outstanding! Beautiful knife and thank you for posting your great find. I am jealous and I want one. Next time I order from those fine folk a Marjacq in ebony will be on my list.

Who has a good link for info on the X46CR13 steel? I have been able to determine that it is a common martenistic stainless steel and would like to know more.

Best,

oregon

Thanks for the info! I got to get one soon & try it. That steel might be Sandvic or close to it. Heck, even if it is 420 with a good heat treat its still a deal! We are not talking 50.00 plus here!

Being that I just received the knife last night, I have no experience with its edge retention. The blade is thin - a hair over 1/16th inch thick. I'm expecting it will be a good slicer for food prep or a good steak knife. Also, the knife is very comfortable and balanced in the hand and light in the pocket.

Again, for $19.95, I am really impressed with the handle and lock finish. The shaping on both sides of the handle is very symmetrical and the fit of the blade, lock, and handle is exceptional - everything lines up. The blade is very flowing and pleasing to the eye, but the scratches in the blade finish was the most disappointing. Fortunately, that was easy to remedy with the sanding pad.

I have to admit, I did talk to a salesperson at Knifecenter and he hand picked this particular knife for its ebony, but he said they were all very close.

I'm tellin' ya, this is one neat little knife. :)

Follow up:

Just bought my second Marjacq knife. This time, I got one with an Olive wood handle. I'm glad to report that Marjacq has made some improvements within the last year.

1) Sharper out of the box.
2) They greatly improved the finish on the blade. Satin finish was perfect.
3) Blade shape flows even nicer.
4) Knives are now boxed.

I also bought a Marjacq leather sheath. Overall high quality. Inside snap is covered to prevent contact with the handle. Good fit. Not sure if the belt loop will hold up under hard use.

Bought knife and sheath here: https://www.smithandspeed.com/index.php?page=detail&cat=1&product_id=163

Super nice company to deal with. Fast shipping.

FYI -
Ebony wood knife: 2.1 oz.
Olive wood knife: 1.8 oz.
