Every now and then you get lucky and today was the day. I happened to go by the local scrap yard and found a pile of various tool steels in ten foot lengths. These were unused rounds from 1/2 to 1 inch in A2, D2 and 52100.

At .18 cents a pound I couldnt let this lay there. Its amazing what some jobbers throw away!

Nice find, sure wish something like that would come through our local scrap heep. But then if it did they wouldn't know what they got. Just out of curiosity how did you know what steel it was?

All of the rods were either end stamped or had the paper tag on them. They were still lightly painted/dyed like new steel from the mill. I had seen this pile once before , didnt look at is closely and passed it off as mild steel. When I first saw it there were probably 60 ten foot lengths. It was down considerably when the light bulb finally came on. I still got enough to feel lIke I had won the lottery.

The scrapeyard owner didnt know what he had and didnt care. He operates on a volume and is more concerned with brass, copper and aluminum.

Yipeeeeeee!
