I am looking for a machete that is good at garden and camp chores, as well as improvised self defence at home. I was looking at the Condor Hog Sticker Machete with 18" blade. Where can I get one of these? Any other suggestions?

I would go with the Becker patrol machete ( I think the model # is BK9). It is a ggreat tool to have. Best of luck.

Just my opinion....

I think that an 18" machete might be somewhat difficult to swing in the confines of the average home.
I would recommend something around 12".....a good 12ga shotgun.

Good luck,

...I got one of the Condor jungle bowies - it is serviceable for either light machete type work or self defense. The point is long, wicked and double edged. The clip is fully sharpened & the main edge has a nice curve to it. Can't go wrong for the price though I kinda wish I had gotten their mountain knife instead for the PC factor. For home defense though, short of a gun it is a good choice IMO. They are hiar poppingly razor sharp out of the box - they seem to put allot of the work into the edge

Along the same lines I got an Ontario Bowie-machete a few years ago. It has a 12" carbon steel blade & a plastic D-guard handle. The edge is not ground evenly in some places & it barely had a working edge out of the box... With a little help from a grinder it is serviceable in this dual role too.
