I was just thinking about how it would be cool if the Brute could be brought back... and I was thinking it might be doubly cool if it were brought back in 5160...

I have heard somewhere that Ka-Bar doesn't make the Brute because it is too long for their machines. Is that true? Doesn't Ethan have some of his knives made through other avenues?

Anyways, I guess I was just thinking out loud. I think a 5160 Becker would be interesting, especially the Brute, because I figured its size and shape would lend itself well to 5160.

A Bk9 and a Bk4 might be cool in 5160 too though huh? Maybe a Bk2? (although the Bk2 is so beefy that it could be made of pot metal and still be crazy tough... LOL)

I saw that thread. I dont really like or want stainless, I just thought that for a large knife that 5160 spring steel would be a good option.

But your right, ill wait for the 21 :-D

The Brute looks better than it performs.

Yeah, the 9 out performs the 1 decidedly. The 4 does as well. The 1 looks cool as hell, but if you want a knife that works great stick with one of those two. Or wait for the 21.

Well then ill be content with the 9, until the 21 comes out, then ill look into the 4... and so on and so forth. Thats just how the condition goes I guess lol

I picked up a 1 about 6 months ago at a reasonable price and thought I'd really use it. I've since found that I much prefer a 9 or 4 for just about every use I can think of.

El Brute looks good but after many comparison cutting, chopping and whacking sessions it just does not measure up to either the Nine or the Machax....... It LOOKS like it will out cut a Stihl 170..... But........

A word about 5160..... It is has many proponents who I respect and admire and it has been around and it works...... It has, with certain heat treat protocols been said to be better than 1095CroVan...... I do not have enough time in with 5160 blades to give you a definitive answer about this....... When 1095croVan is cooked right and I believe that KaBar DOES cook it just right, it is very hard to find anything that works much better........ There are many steels now that have theoretical advantages in one way or another but, I am skeptical about all round real world improvements having been made..... Having said that I DO need to get some more blades in 5160...... Stay tuned.....

DavyKOTWF, I love the blade, but i sure cant afford to collect knives like that! Good luck! That is a cool find for a collector I am sure.

I'll chime in and say the Brute is fun to own, but I agree with everyone else that the 9 and 4 are better options. That said, I'm still gonna thin out the edge on it and go from there. Warrior also has a sharpened top edge on his, and I might do that, too. Still, for the price of what most of those Brutes go for, you could get yourself a good working set of Beckers.

...........not that I in any way regret buying mine, but.....

Cool, I'm staying tune for some 5160 on BK and hopefully soon. hehe .. great work uncle Ethan, looking forward to new stuffs.
