Manoucher,

Almost every time you visit here, it seems that you bring wonderful photos. Thanks.

Ever thought about putting together a big "coffee-table" photo book? What you've shown so far looks like an excellent start if you have or can get images like some of these on fine-grain film.

Far be it from me to criticize the quality of anybody's pix but I get pix that are just about too dark to make anything out. Is it this AOL browser?

Not the AOL Browser. Although, I didn't check out the technical portions of your monitor or CPU, at the convention, I did notice your screen looked a little odd.

I had the same problem, especially when referred to the Sword Forum. I couldn't read anything on the Sword Forum.

AFTER ugrading my 10-12 yr old monitor to a Microtek 15 inch, I haven't had a problem. My monitor was just too old.

Maybe time to upgrade?

Uncle Bill, digital photos, especially displayed on a monitor that doesn't cost a lot aren't really that great. Especially if trimmed to proper size for fast internet transmission. That's why I said "like some of these on fine-grain film".

Not to critcize Man, but the photos seemed OK to me, but not fantastic. Background was to dark, but I could see OK.

"Is it this AOL browser?"

Could be your monitor or it's settings...Can't recall whether you got a new one or not, I know at one point you were thinking of getting a new 'puter. A long while back you posted a couple of pix for me that you had tweaked up before posting--they looked too light and washed out to me compared to the way I sent them. My monitor is set at 1024x768, "millions" of colors, it that's worth any thing... Of course the contrast and other settings are important too. As is the amount of direct light on the monitor. Too few colors will obscure subtle contrast. Black and white film shows much more subtle contrast of shades of the same color than color film. This monitor is a used Sylvania that I bought cheap to replace a Trinitron-based monitor that died after a few years of faithful service. The Trinitron-based monitor was definately better, but not quite as bright.

Dunno about the AOL browser, maybe they add on some additional compression??? Every compression algorithm loses something. You could see if downloading the picture to your drive and viewing it with something else makes a difference, but I doubt it if you download with AOL. Best would be if you try another browser, or maybe compare the size of pix files downloaded by AOL vs something else. If you want I can download the a pix and tell you how big is for me. Are your peepers as wore-out as your guts??:)

Maybe somebody else can offer better help...Strangely the links to pix are broken for me now, so I can't go back and look again. Always something....:)

EDIT: looks like somebody did offer better help while I was typing.

Dale is probably right. The monitor is old and has a lot of hours on it. Sometimes the white background turns yellow for no apparent reason

Thanks Steve.

Uncle Bill sorry for the quality. Next time I will make sure to get pics which are bright.

Had the same problem, plus screen started jittering like a power fluctuation, thought it was main power fluttering out here in the country, but new monitor eliminated all symptoms.

Man - note on your question sent by email.

Also, on the darkness of the photos, you are using a dark wood table as backdrop for the items shown. Perhaps placing the items on a lighter color background would help without detracting from the impact of your subject. A towel, a sheet or bedspread, etc.

I've been looking at those little LCD monitors. Maybe it's time.

I bought the Microtek C593 LCD monitor flat screen 15" without speakers. Use the speakers from my old monitor.

The 17" with speakers was about 150 extra. Just didn't want to spend the extra on it, saved for more Khukuris:)

When it comes to monitors for old and tired eyes bigger is better, Much Better!!!!!!!
Mine is 12 3/4" wide X 9 1/2" high or 16" measured diagonally. I have it set on 800 X 600 with 32 bit color and the text size on medium which works really well for me.
Beats the hell outta the little 13" TV set I had when I was on WebTV!!!!:D
