A matched set of custom hunters from David M for my two favorite Bowyers in Scotland

I just got back from a little fishing trip to Panama to mark a friends fight against cancer

My goal was to spend time with him and if possible catch a Black Marlin to cross off the list

I've caught Blue and White before but not the Black

That trip was a success

13 foot Black Marlin on stand up gear no harness brought to boat in 20 minutes for a clean release

Before I left I commissioned a matched set of aggressive hunters for a father and don team of Bowyers in Scotland that go by the name of Border Archery

They are both named Sid so I refer to te as the Sids

Like in the knife world I gave made many ftiends in the archery world and I sm pretty much exclusively shooting and hunting with these incredible Super Recures from this small niche company

In a word these are revolutionary single strings and perform like nothing else in the archery world

Over the years out friendships have grown and I wanted to repay the kindness and friendship they have shown me so what better way to do so than by sending them something from another dear friend and artisan David MIRABILE

SO TO GET THIS STARTED

this is the bows they make

Last two deer I've shot

So David got started

They will be similar to the John SHARP PH AWARD KNIFE David did for this years SCI Show

The Award Knife

The pair getting started with a tight twist pattern

Forged to shape

Ground

Quick e6ch to see pattern

More to come

Nice Joe... The Sids are gonna LOVE 'EM!!!

Congrat's on the Black Marlin and to your buddies battle against the Big C!

this ought to be a fun ride. Great sentiment, and looking forward to seeing the process and knives. Plus, the whole thing has a touch of style and class.

Thoughtful gift. Look forward to seeing them finished. Love that bow and congrats on the Black M.

Thank you all

As you all know I love David and his work and I've grown quite close to the two Bowyers from Scotland so it's a special project to say the least

Harry up David :)

Great pics.

Knives of course looks great so far.

Does the award knife have a bog oak handle (which would also be wholly appropriate for the two new knives IMO)?

Sooo nice to see someone hunting with a recurve instead of a compound (nothing against compound bows - I like them).

The bow in the pic against the tree is practically a laminated piece of art in itself. What a beauty.

Judging from the pics, that fish looks to have had quite some fight in it.

Wow...what a great thread- the marlin, bows, knives and deer. All it needed was a sweet firearm!

I like great northern quivers for sure

The super recurve that Border Archery designed is truly a landmark piece of kit

It is the fastest recurve out there and literally gaining less than a pound an inch on the back side

There are tons of videos n my YouTube channel speaking about these bows.

Thx for the kind words

Man you've got all my favorite hobbies in one thread! That bow is sweeeeeeet! I used to shoot competitively when I was a teenager, but I always shot compound for hunting and competition, saving my recurve for backyard plinking and shooting gophers. :p

What's the handle material on the knives? It looks like jigged bone on my little phone screen but I could be wron

I like you, Joe- you're a good egg :)
