I made a reply on the Eurostar thread but what I said was not anti-Europe or anti-British. I simply asked if a non-locking penknife was legal to carry in Europe. If my question was offensive to you then I must apologize.
However...I HAVE been very critical of some of the knife laws in my own state of California (very much so, in fact). I've also asked almost the same question about legality in Japan.
I can travel with or without a knife, but I usually would like to have a pen knife to open packages, and a pen and a comb as well.
I have very good friends in Europe (non-knife), so my question was obviously not meant to be offensive. It disturbs me that my question would make you sick and contribute to you no longer posting in this forum.
I realize you probably won't read this post, but perhaps one of your friends will, and can pass the word along.

Hey James, don't feel bad. Personal experience is what we have to judge by and when you pass it on it should be taken in the right context. Personal experience. I too responded to the post but it was generic with the "world over".

Personally I have put up with a lot of "America bashing" by different country co-workers without the need to threaten to bloody someones nose.

Why are people so damned thin skinned nowadays???????????

Some people just personalize everything. I went back and read over all the posts in that thread, and I didnt see anything worth having a hissy fit over. If Americans got upset every time someone whose country we liberated
said something intemperate, we would spend our whole lives making noses bleed.

Doc Mac,

Now there is a useful post. Now I suppose Nemo should post about Lafayette or the other "foreigners" that contributed one way or another to the war for our own independence.

What is the point of baiting a member who has done nothing but good in terms of providing reviews, humor and an occasional warning for those who may be unfamiliar with laws abroad.

Even if you don't agree with his being "thin skinned" it is no reason (imnsho) to go after one of our own.

The man was upset. And as well as he speaks English, it is still a SECOND language to him and he may have taken some offense where none was intended. Nuance is a funny thing that way, especially on the net. Certainly continuing in this vein will not help calm waters which were about to subside.

Is this really what you want to accomplish?

I can't help but shake my head.
