Well I don't really intend for this to be a thorough WIP thread, I thought I would post some pics of what I am woring on for the mini KITH. I know not everyone is familiar with minis.

I am working in 1/5 scale (or 20%) on this one. Overall is going to be roughly 2.3" and the blade is about 0.032" thick by 1.338" long. The guard will be 0.025" thick and the pommel will be 0.038" thick. Blade is 1080.

Something I found interesting, is that minis are not exclusive to the world of custom one-off makers. Hre is a skeleton knife assumed to be made by colonial in the early '50s. This is from my collection nd I forgot I even had it!

Just thought I would post some up to get mini's on everyones mind to convince people to join the KITH! Not quite as impressive as the collection Bob posted, but I thought the production mini I have deserved some mention. Oh and we are up to 9 makers in the kith now! Let's keep it going!

Pretty cool start, there...I don't think I have the dexterity (patience?) to make anything that small. Looking forward to more pics in progress.

As an aside, what kind of turntable do you have? Don't see many folks with those anymore!

Hey thanx Paul. I am new to knife making, but working in miniature is nothing new to me as I have been a model builder for many years. Surprisingly, this is much more entertaining for me, because it is still a knife made from proper materials. Model cars aren't exactly just miniature cars.

The TT in the pics is an old Technics SL-B2. Kind of a mediocre unit, but it just won't die so it is my back up and loaner. My main unit is a Technics SL-BD20D, a highly underrated unit. With a simple cartridge upgrade it sounds just as good as a classic Thorens or a Music Hall MMF 5.1 for less than 1/4 the price. I just wish it had a bettter arm. With no CD player in the house dedicated to music, my turntables get a workout.

Thanks for posting this I love minis! I am glad to see they are getting some love. I look forward to seeing more pictures of your work.

PS I looked that album up and It is really good :)

I've got 2 as well, a Thorens TD-160 that I picked up on Craigslist and a J.A. Michell. I'm not sure I would have ever bought the Michell had I had gotten the Thorens first.

Unfortunately they've functioned pretty much as dust collectors for the last year or so, and lately I've had thoughts of selling the Michell.
