I was planning to make this test much more detailed and with more pics but all the wood in my forest is still frozen solid so i guess this is part one of the test, i will be doing a part two when the trees have thawed. Well anyway meet the contestants: :D

These 5 make up the Busse part of the test.

The Rattlehawk and the Double bitted axe from Granfors bruks make up the axe part, the axe from Granfors is intended to be the baseline for this and the future tests i am going to do since it's one of the most fierce chopping tools ever made.

I started out with 35 hits with the Granfors and followed up with 35 hits from the rest of the gang.

The Granfors removed quite a bit of the log and the MOAB came in as a good runner up but i kinda expected that to happen, the TTKZ and the proto KZ removed about the same amount of wood but they feel very different, the proto feels much lighter than the TTKZ even though the proto has thicker G10 slabs and actually weighs more, both had factory edges.
My trusty KZ2 actually did the best job of the Zillas but that might only be because i am used to using it and because of the mirror polish hair popping sharp convex i put on it. The NMFSHLE did really well, it sinks deep and chopps like a dream for it's size, it's actually almost at a tie with the proto and the TTKZ. The RH is a small but mighty chopper and did much better than what i expected, besides being a good chopper the RH is a lot of fun, i always bring it with me when i work in the forest so i can practice trowing it at stuff :D

Hmmm what conclusions did i draw from my test, well not much to be honest, i will do another test when the weather gets warmer and trees are no longer frozen solid and se how these blades perform then.

That is quite a haul of steel there!

Nice chop-off. Nothing beats swinging some nice blades.

Awesome gear ya have there. I have the Gransfor Bruks Splitting axe and I love it. I was eyeing but a felling axe from them but that was before I knew they made a double bit axe. How do you like the double bit?

Nice job Len. Would be interesting to know the weight of each tool.

I don't know if my scales are spot on but this is what i found.

NMFSHLE : 34.9 oz
MOAB : 44.1 oz
KZ2 : 32.0 oz
GRANFORS : 84.1 oz
KZ PROTO : 37.6 oz
TTKZ : 36.4 oz
RH : 24.6 oz

I love it to bits! :p :D . It's really good for felling and general chopping and with the long cutting edge it is easy to hit your mark when chopping of tree branches. but get the one with the long handle, i have the one with the short handle now and it is a tiny bit too short but i have a long handle on order.

That gransfors is sweet, I really want one. Ive got the scandi forest axe by them and it rocks. Thanks for posting.

two hands ax is powerful than any one hand knife !

really cool pics , thank you for your sharing.

Thanks Len,

That surely is a sweet lineup. Look forward to reading more once the freeze is over.

Great write up, I look forward to seeing the rest of the testing. I would be interested to see how a smaller axe (hatchet) would do up against those knives. The large axe seems too disproportionate in chopping ability to the knives, and too big to consider for any outdoor applications. I was also surprised that the KZ's weigh the same as that NMFSH.

Good job, buddy! Makes me happy to see that MOAB getting used! Thanks for the pics.
I need one of those medium sized gransfors brucks. I had the hunter's axe but it was too small.

That looks like a good day out in the woods. I can't wait to see Part 2 of your test.
